Have you thought about asking in the Photography and Video section of the forums? You may get a better answer. Personally I use that free MS one - suits my purpose ie simple stuff but it won't do anything fancy. Do you need it to do fancy stuff?

Depends what you want to do.
If you just want to cut it up and convert to MP4 then Freemake Video Convertor is perfect.

What are you trying to do exactly, edit youtube vid after you've downloaded it or before uploading it?

If you're looking for a free one Avidemux 2.6.x works pretty well most of teh time (make sure its 2.6, earlier versions are noticeably buggy)
