Video Encoding on 5850

Hi

Having recently bought an ATI 5850, I was doing a little reading on ATI Stream... I have installed the AVIVO software and as a test, converted a .vob file from a DVD, it took no time at all using the divx option (MPEG4?)..

However, the quality was terrible playing back at full screen on my 20" 1600/900 LCD

Anybody have any software recomendations for use with the GPU for encoding files to play on a PS3 (it's connected to a 50" rear projection Sony TV via HDMI), I normally encode using VirtualDub to 720/XXX AVI files...

Well plenty of views, so people must be interested in the subject?

Having looked around the web, it looks like there is no alternative at the moment for ATI cards bar Avivo, so looks like I may stick with CPU apps.

Going to try some of the other options to see if they give better results than the divx one, but ultimatly, for my PS3 films, I'll use tried and tested CPU apps.

use handbreak a free app using the cpu. Unfortunately although gpu's have the potential to be good at video encoding, the software solutions are poor and thus the problems you are having.
