I'm running fedora 9 first of all. I'm after some recommendations of good encoding software. I've got a few mkv files that I'd like to reencode into a format that my xbox 360 can make use of. Any suggestions would be grateful.

mEncoder can do it. It's a CLI program that can convert from any format mPlayer can play to any other format it can play. What format do you need it in? Will an XviD/MP3-encoded file in an .avi container work?
