Hey! This forum and it's users have provided me with a whole lot of help since buying my computer from here a few months ago (extremely happy with my purchase btw ;))

Now however, I have a general software problem, well when I say problem its more of a question, I want to start uploading videos to YouTube and bought a licensed version of Dxtory (brilliant piece of software, extremely easy to use and efficient) and configured it in the best way using an online guide, even use a video codec specifically created for the easiest and most lightweight video capturing. Yet 29 minutes 03 seconds of footage (Street Fighter x Tekken) is over 40GB! I know there is no way YouTube will accept that, even if it breaks them up into a two video playlist, that's still two 15 minute videos at 20GB each, yet the maximum allowance for upload is 2GB per video if i remember correctly. So my question is, how can I keep a nice quality, while reducing video size and splitting the video in two parts, is there a specific program that's best for this? I was told to use Windows Movie Maker but man, that's blatantly not cut out for this kind of work, several uploaders I know on YouTube have used it and eventually switched to something like Sony Vegas PRO but my problem is that i don't have £350 lying around  aha.

So thats my conundrum, all help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! :p

FRAPS produces much higher file sizes, isn't as compatible with custom codec's as Dxtory, and DX is basically better in every other way, I also live stream videos and FRAPS isn't capable of that. I also don't want a watermark, and if I'm going to purchase a piece of software, I want the best, most robust and most professional one, which Dxtory is. I don't mind paying an extra £4 for far superior software.

I do not understand what the problem with me using DX and not FRAPS is :P

I use FRAPS, but I'm sure you have something similar.

- Frame rate
What is your frame rate set as? I use 30fps, as you get little/no difference in comparison to 60fps (or anything of the sort). It still gives great results.

- Compression
To finally compress the video, I use VirtualDub. Even compress, the quality is great. I used an online tutorial for the best settings. If you want, i can send you the link.

Dxtory :P best software IMO, yeah my framerate is set at 29.97, so 30 basically but less chance to drop iirc.

Yeah, a link would be great :) is it freeware? I'm poor as hell right now and that £29 has killed me :P

Yes its free. I'll trust you the link.

I used to use Dxtory too when it was in the beta stages. Its a good piece of software!

EDIT: Can you configure your trust please. (Click on 'Users Trust' on the bottom right of a post. Its easy to set up.)

when I have used FRAPS, a long time ago, it seemed to do a very good job with some useful settings which ensured that it fitted my needs at the time. If you feel that the DX software is better for your need then that is fine.

Virtualdub is a good piece of free software, not sure why he didn't just post the link rather than trust you..?

...there are plenty of guides around and it is worth watching some of the youtube vids to help you.
It also has some good video filters to use, if needed.
Hopefully it will support your file format from the DX application.

Lots of guides and video information and help can be found here...

I posted a link to a tutorial and stuff aswell. Not sure what the website is (I mean if it sells stuff or not, because I just googled it and thats it) so i don't want to risk getting some warning because it breaks the rules or something :P

Tbh, the quickest, easiest way to compress video to a standard youtube will take is handbreak on default settings.

..ah I see.

With the links I included at least if anyone else needs similar help and searches they will find them in the post I made.
In the past I have found that a little care is need where I have downloaded Virtualdub from. It was, maybe still is, a very popular piece of software and I have now preferred to go to its home page or the videohelp site / forum for the download links.

The videohelp site / forum is one of the most comprehensive sites and guides that I have ever found for most of my video needs over the years.

Woah! VirtualDub has projected the 40GB will be 1.7GB (and rising, quite fast) and estimates a total time of over one hour, to compress a 30 minute video? :| This can't be right?
