I'd like to build a site that contains videos in the format of FLV and have them stream in a browser. These videos will not be hotlinked but instead hosted from my host.

I understand that FW FLV media player will allow FLV video to be streamed in browsers, however i'm wondering if there is any way of making the process easier. Like auto generating thumbnails or adding comments etc..making a gallery page of videos

I looked at joomla but just like most things for joomla theres a lot of work yet to be done with video addon components... unless i've missed something

Any ideas how to make this work easierly?

Thanks

You could use Gallery2 which has an FLV player http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Modules:flashvideo I use it to show youtube vids as well as have a classical gallery. You can see it in my sig. I've never used the FLV module but by digging on the G2 site you may find further info.

I would say G2 generally needs a decent server so it's going to be a bit slow if you've got a cheap host in USA. However it's proven and has been developed over many years.

Cheers for that, i've had a look at gallery2 but im not sure it suites my needs. I'd like to be able to drop videos amongst a blog/content.

Come across flowplayer which plays FLV quite well and is very small.. it would be a case of embedding that into the correct area, and manually making thumbnails.

Hotlinking is something I haven't thought about until now, and I can see that being a problem, the host I have is very fast yet bandwidth is not unlimited. Enforcing hotlink protection with flowplayer is only possible with a dedicated server and involves access to running apps. This might be something for me to tackle further down the road if it does become a problem.

Looks like i'm gonna *try* going back to joomla.. unless any others want to add suggestions?
