I bought The Walking Dead a few days ago so I'm not going to watch the video because it'll spoil it for me. I much prefer commentary over a video but it has to be engaging and funny.

Fair enough, I will be doing playthrough of lots of other games over the next couple of weeks, the steam sale you see.

I always wanted to do something like this, but I don't have the requird PC power to render a large amount of videos quickly.

I wouldn't advise you to do strictly walkthroughs because people will just view the part they are stuck at, and move on. You need to do something that will keep an audience. For example get a few friends and play through L4D. That is entertaining and beneficial if you are stuck.

Or at least do a mix of everything.

If you play games like FM you can do a series of that, and people will keep on coming back for more.

Not sure if I am making myself clear! :P

Good luck.

I don't but plenty of people do seem to watch them. I've never really understood the fascination of watching/listening to someone else play a game. I'd rather, play them.

Hey Malteaser, thanks for the advice, I have some friend who I can play Co-op game with. And I may sound stupid but what is FM?

There's already a million channels containing let's play videos with no commentary. You need something to stand out in a such a large crowd and the only sustainable way to do that is personality and objective critique.

Well, I did prototype commentary, but I just felt really awkard and didn't really know what to talk about, if I try to act really hyper, then that makes me feel even more stupid. Any tips on getting past this barrier?

Co-Op games is just my idea. I've been watching youtube for ages now, something like 2/3 years. I mainly watch the big CoD youtubers (Hutch [although he left], Sea Nanners, Woody etc.). For me, its all about the content of what they say, and the expriance. I couldn't give a crap about what they are playing. In fact I just let them play out in the background.

FM is Football Manager. You can document your season, month by month.

I like my videos to be straight to the point, i dont mind commentary at all but hate when you look for a walkthrough and theres just a lot of pottering around 2 mins of answers 8 mins of nothing.

Oh is see, well for one, I dont play COD, so no montages or anything like that, and I don't like football, do you reckon if I play older games with a good fanbase I would get some kind of views? I was on about playing the bioshock games and stuff like that too.

Record it then add your voice over afterwards, it's what most of the non live folks do.

What you posted is gameplay and something i look up when thinking of buying a game but once bought that persons vids or channel are never looked at again. If that's what you want to do then you need to either find an already prominent platform to do it from or make one, not an easy task.

Fair point, do you think it would make sense to only do commentaries on co-op games, so I can actually make it entertaining? Instead of sitting there talking to myself. Like singler player would be no commentary then co-op game would be commentary, is that a good format?

No. Do the games that you want to do, there's no point in choosing games based on what someone else might like. Only do ones that you want to talk about. If you're excited, upset, indifferent about a game it will come through

I can imagine this is difficult. I recommend watching some popular video games people like Total Biscuit to get a general feel for what is discussed. I'm not saying copy them outright, just get a sense for things. You don't have to release everything you do either. You may do 10+ commentaries before you find a particular style you're comfortable with.

Sure. You have to enjoy the game and it has to show you actually enjoy it though. The majority of people who watch videos like that already know the game and obviously enjoy it so they'll know if you're blagging it.

I noticed there's a shortage of decent Baldurs gate 2 videos. If you're a RPG fan that might be a nice game to get your teeth into.

I love the Bioshock games, one of my favourite game series. Also I have never played Baldurs gate 2, worth playing?
