Video Length Reporting Incorrectly

Recently, I've been noticing that some videos (MPG/WMV files, mostly) have been displaying the wrong total time in WMP.
So, for example, a video with an actual length of 15 minutes, say, would be reporting as 3 minutes and 20 seconds. The video then stops playing when it reaches that point, although the sound continues.

It doesn't happen in VLC, but I don't like the interface, and would like to keep using WMP. (Anyone saying "use a different player" gets a slap (metaphorically))

I've searched around a bit, but I can't find anything on the problem at all.
Any help would be appreciated.

[EDIT:]Also, I installed WMP 11b2, thinking it might help solve the problem, and it changed the default icon for video files to a different one. Is there any way to get the old one back?

See if you can find anything to repair the files. Sometimes it's caused when a few frames get corrupted or the end of the file is missing. I've had a 30m AVI file reported as over 8hrs before!

It's happening with quite a few files, not just one or two, and it's all been happening recently.

I'll still give that a try though.

anyone else got any ideas?
