Right the problem is, no matter what i want to watch it doesnt work, i just get a black screen but i do get sound, ive tried all of the media players and same on all of them. Films and videos always used to work on my computer now nothing seems to at all.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

Codecs might have been corrupted. Try reinstalling them.

I had a similar problem recently BUT found that the cause was Winamp. When running & even not playing anything, any other program I used to playback a video would play sound but no picture. Problem seems to have gone since upgrading Winamp & DivX to latest ones :)

Try VLC Player, which seems to play everything including half downloaded files.

Failing that theres a codec pack out called k-lite which again seems to let media player play lots of files.

They have always worked before ive never had problems, i have all the codecs.

I have k-lite codec pack and i have VLC media player. Neither are working thats the problem.

Regarding the guy with the winamp problem, i have winamp too, but i havnt changed anything on it do you still think i should upgrade it?

But you need to investigate if its the cause? My situation was whilst Winamp is running, i.e. both playing nor not playing an MP3 file, it would affect playback of video files in other media programs.

Regardless, I'd recommend you upgrade to the latest version/s :)

Rite updated winamp tried all codecs and media players still nothing this is ridiculous!!! I havnt used the computer for months, ive been at university!

Cant think what it could be.

what graphics card do you have?

the settings may have been changed so it's trying to send all video to the secondary display?

Check Catalyst control centre or nvidia control panel.

uninstall all codecs and codec packs in add/remove programs

install ffdshow from free-codecs.com and use media player classic
if that fails, try vlc

if that fails, try creating a new user account &/or reinstalling gfx card drivers

I've got a similar problem, videos dont play AFTER I've played a game...the sounds still there, just no video is rendered.

Note: the videos work fine before I play a game, just afterwards they don't run.
