Video Playback Issue

Bought a Hazro HZW27A recently and mostly I'm very pleased with it. However, there is one particular issue that is bugging me a great deal. I'm not totally sure if the monitor is at fault, but I certainly never noticed this before switching screeens.

When watching quite a number of MKV video files, I get horizontal lines across the screen on some dark backgrounds. As far as I can tell, other video containers are not effected but I haven't tested enough to say conclusively. Additionally, I noticed something similar in the game Zombie Driver though it may be unrelated.

Please see the image below to see what I'm talking about:

In attempting to fix this issue, I have tried various media players. VLC Media Player uses self-contained codecs so should not have replicated the fault if it was that kind of problem. Unfortunately it suffers just as badly as Media Player Classic. Oddly, Windows Media Player seems to fare the best.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest K-Lite Codec Packs (both 32 bit and 64 bit versions). This hasn't helped either. I've tweaked countless settings in the media players as well as in the nVidia Control Panel but still no joy. Updating the nVidia drivers didn't change anything.

I'm posting this topic in several forums here in the hope that someone can lead me to a solution. Please don't be offended that I am posting in more than one place. The reason I'm doing this is that I'm not certain what is causing this and want as many people who can help me to read this as possible.

I'll answer this thread since I see no horizontal lines at all on the image you've posted, hence suggesting it could be the monitor. Any chance you can get a photo of the monitor showing the horizontal lines?

Yup, I can see the lines now. Looks like it could be the monitor. Had this happening with one of my Iiyama screens, but when I changed it from VGA to DVI the problem was solved. So try using a different connection and/or cable?

could it be a colorspace issue? those horizontal lines look more like banding to me, as if it's having problems with near black or blacker-than blacks which could be something to do with colorspaces / signal clipping ect. i know hazros have a plethora of options in that regard so maybe have a play around?

I did wonder if it was banding James, but it's weird I never come across this issue outside of MKVs (Zombie Driver being a possible exception). And then weird that I would also experience the issue with the screenshot of the video also.

Had a look in the OSD options and played about with everything but nothing made it better. :(

Tried another cable/different connection yet?

EDIT: Ignore, seems there's better evidence in the Graphics Card section :p

IPS monitor = no issues what so ever, TN monitor = i can see some slight horizontal lines in the black area

Is that what you're talking about? if so, it's just poor black depth on the monitor. EDIT: should have read what was above the image, with a hazro IPS you certainly shouldn't be seeing any lines!

Try playing the movie at it's native 1:1 resolution to pixels. Films aren't 2560x1440p so you may be getting some magic pixels added in to fill in the gaps. If you still get the problem then, something is goofy in your software, if you don't get it, you need to find a better image/resolution scaler (try the monitor's own built-in ones if it has them too).
