I have a number of files (.dvr-ms, .avi) which are stored on my media centre. Every so often, I have a desire to watch this content on another machine in a differnet room to that of the media centre.

When I attempt to play these files through VLC/WMP, I quite often lose a number of frames which can be slightly frustrating. The audio is fine, but the video side will go blank from anywhere between 1-5 seconds and then come back.

Both machines are connected wirelessly to a router stationed in the same room as my media centre. As I'm sure it's the network that is the cause of the issue rather than the decoding performed by the computer, I'm in need of buffering the stream to avoid network issues coming into play. Is there anyway of doing this with either VLC/WMP, or should I find other software to play these files?

nothing wrong with the software if you're using VLC, I'd look at optimizing your wireless network :) take it to the network forums :)
