Video player - data recovery

Hi,

Recovered some GoPro videos and photos for a friend off an SD card, the program I use has got all the photos back perfectly and the videos are there but we can't seem to get them to play?

They are the correct size, and VLC can even tell how long they are - but they play with no sound and no video. I've tried VLC, Quicktime and MPC - any other ideas?

The fact that the data recovery program got all the other photos and bits and pieces back perfectly makes me believe the files might just be missing some vital header data and the footage is there.

Any ideas?

Larger files have a larger chance of having corrupt data, theres probably a fair amount of the data there (though VLC will usually handle that ok) but may be enough damaged data to prevent normal media players working.

There are tools that can "repair" avi, etc. files and/or pull out undamaged segments but I'm a bit out of touch with it to know whats good these days.
