Trying to build a rig for video rendering. Only problem is i've never done it
From what ive read as much ram as possible, raid ssds, gpu simmilar to titan? Cpu wise, i7 compared to say skylake, big jump? Can anyone shed any light on this? Budget 1.5-2k

What sort of video are you rendering? DSLR footage? RAW? Animation? And what resolution?
 
As above, what you've described is a beast-mode video editing machine.

If you've got a lot of cash to play with I'd be looking at dual xeons and a high-mid GPU (Titan possibly overkill but that sort of level).

All depends on how much time=money.

I would see if the manufacturers of the video editing software have any recommendations. Last time I looked into this (and it was a long time ago!) some software needed more GPU grunt while others put more burden on the CPU.

I couldn't agree more. My usual thing would be "what's your workflow?", but the OP says "Only problem is i've never done it". ;) So educated guesses are needed.

I would look at x99 platform or xeon. And pair it with a professional graphics card as opposed to standard consumer models.

I would say pro GPU is overkill here. For CAD maybe. Designing things where people's lives will be at risk? Yes. But video editing, nah.
