Video Screen Capture

I'm having a bit of an issue, I need to capture a selected area of screen whilst playing video footage.
Now I cant simply convert the footage to .avi etc as its stored in multiple .dat files which can only be decoded by the manufacturers player.
So I need to play the footage on the player and then capture it so I can save it as an .avi file.
I've tried a free solution by CamStudio however it crashed when capturing over 15mins at a time, I have just under 2hrs to capture and would like to do it in a single pass if possible.

Any ideas on software that can do this?

Cheers,

Fraps / Gamecam can record while playing games but i doubt they would work for recording video footage from a player. Only option I know of is hardware solution, so video capture card.

You could also try VirtualDub to try convert the files directly. It works with some .dat files so worth a try.

Which player in question is this? may help to know what your playing it with.

Its a TeleEye RX Player, plays stored CCTV footage, in this case of a burglary. The Police have requested an easily playable format rather than a 3rd party player.
