Video stutter

Hi all,

After my last video card (6600GT) gave up the ghost, I bought a 7600GS (fanless) for my HTPC.

This PC is connected to my 42" plasma using the dsub. This runs at 1024x768.

However, any video that I play stutters along, sometimes jumping a second at a time, sometimes freezing for 3-4 seconds, and massive pixelations on the screen.

-I've tried on both Windows Media Player and VLC with the same results.
-I've used both latest nvidia drivers, and the drivers that came on the cd (driver date June 2007).
-I've tried turning on and off vsync.
-The card is well cooled, so thats not an issue.

System specs are AMD2500 Barton and 1gb ram.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, check this out

Why the hell is the cpu struggling so much when it used to be fine before that graphics card change?

Yup, hardware acceleration is on full.

maybe a driver issue could be something left over from you last card try uninstalling drivers boot into safe mode run driver cleaner reboot reinstall gfx driver

I tried playing HD-Content HD-DVD's on my 3400+ skt 754 and 7600GT. It failed big time....

I had to get an intel e6300, new ram, mainboard and an 8600GT passive and all is good now.

Would be very interested if u get smooth playback with ** cpu tho as I still have my old bits.... wouldnt it have been better to get a 2600pro/XT or 8500GT/8600GT so they take away some of the load from cpu?

Its a frikkin AGP port, so latest graphics card would do I'm afraid.

Still doesnt make sense that old 6600GT used to work fine, but new 7600GS doesnt.

Will try driver clean and see what happens.

I sold my 7600 gs for the same reason, stuttering on 1080p, bought an 8600gt and it was better.

When I did some searching on Nvidia site I'm sure the 7600gs had some hardware acceleration or bad bit detect thingy missing [sorry cant recall exactly] which I assumed to be the problem, although I didn't directly compare it to a 6600gt.

Maybe the agp 3850 offers some hope, finances permitting, or pick up a 6800gt for pennies

turn hardware accel, off - restart + turn back on or video accel in windows media player.

had random prob with green double image when installed 8800GT, that was prob
