Video tutorial making software

Can anyone recommend a good piece of software which can be used to record my desktop and microphone audio so I can make a video tutorial? Preferably open source / freeware and mpeg/wmv compatible.

Have a look at Windows Media Encoder. Its free, easy to use and lets you capture the whole screen, an area or a window, with or without audio.

Just downloaded the Windows Media one and it's superb! Very good quality and small file size, just what I was after
