Hi all,

I've got a Gigabyte 7970 GHz and over the last few days I've been getting a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE. I recently updated to the 13.2 Beta (27/02/2013) and am on Win 8 64bit.

BlueScreenView highlights the following addresses at fault: dxgkrnl.sys, atikmpag.sys, dxgmms1.sys

Is this BSOD likely a driver issue, or can it mean hardware as well? Anyone else experiencing this with the latest beta drivers?

Thanks.

dxgkrnl.sys, atikmpag.sys, dxgmms1.sys are usually indicators of GPU instability, like an unstable overclock, but its not necessarily a problem with the GPU, your Memory Modules could also be the problem, or even the Motherboard.

(atikmpag) is a Memory mapping module within your GPU drivers, (dxgkrnl) and (dxgmms1) are Direct 3D modules within the OS.

The best way to diagnose this is a process of elimination, test the GPU in a rig you know is trouble free, if you are able to do that..
Or take the GPU out and run GPU tress tests with the iGPU, is also a good way to eliminate Motherboard and RAM issues.

If this is something that has started to happen out of the blue then it could be Hardware related.
Try and think back to what 'if any' changes you made to your rig before it all went wrong, driver updates, memory settings / overclocks, BIOS.............

Edit- One other this you could try is to uninstall and the clean out the AMD GPU drivers with driver cleaning tools, install Catalyst 12.10 or earlier and stress test.
I, actualy, also would be intreasted to see if you still get atikmpag errors, i have a sneeking feeling you might not.
