I'm going round in ever decreasing circles with this.

Can I ask for an idiots guide, please?

My friend has an indoor IP security camera (TP Link, Tapo C200) in her house. Not yet installed though.

It records to its own internal sd card. Not the best solution to store potential evidence, I'm guessing.

I'm trying to figure out how to record her camera, installed at her house on my Synology NAS at my house. I currently use Synology Surveillance station. My own camera system works fine for local and remote viewing. (Just how I got it to work was actually just down to following on line guides. I didn't figure anything out by myself really.:)

We both have Plusnet Hub One routers.

I've looked at port forwarding and must admit I'm stumped. All the guides make it look easy. But I don't seem to grasp it.

For a bit of practice, Prior to installing her camera at her house I've tried to familiarise myself with the methods and techniques required by testing Port forwarding of my own IP cameras at home and view them on my iphone. (Via the Iphone internet - not wifi). I'm guessing the technique to record her camera will be similar? Needless to say all my attempts have failed.

Can anyone describe how its done, please? In simple terms?

Thank you.

I would really discourage opening an IP Camera to the internet via port forwarding, you're best option is to install a VPN Tunnel and do it that way, however, that may be more complex than it's worth.

Yes. That sounds like sensible advice. ( and Vpn tunnel sounds like it's way beyond my current knowledge)

What about cloud storage then? She is not particularly flush. So permanent free cloud storage would be ideal for her.
I'm aware some big companies offer some free storage.

Does anyone know if the Tapo c200 camera can connect to free 3d party cloud storage?
Would that be feasible?

Thank you.

c200 can't connect to cloud storage. Their FAQs suggest they plan on making TP-Link's own cloud storage available to it but when that happens I'd wager it'll be subscription based. Short of a VPN tunnel or installing her own NVR I think you're out of luck. I'd send it back and get a camera that supports cloud storage. I don't have huge experience to recommend something and anything I've used ties into a small subscription with the vendor e.g. Ring

More good advice. Thank you.

She tells me the c200 can now have cloud storage with Tplink (Free for a short time then subscription based) but I'm not sure if cloud storage will be tied to TPlink.
Her finances dictate paid subscription is not an option.

It's still in its sealed cellophane box. I'll recommend she returns it and we'll do a bit more research.

Thank you.
