View (list,meduim icons, etc.) in Desktop Folders/Explorer

I was just wondering how to make the view(list,medium icons, etc.) stay the same when I open folders from the desktop.

My default view in explorer is ‘list’. I have a few folders on the desktop which I want to open as ‘medium icons’.

When I open the folders and set them to ‘medium icons’ and they stay like that until I restart the system then they default back to list.

Is there a way to make them stay as I set them?

Tools > Folder Options > View Tab > Apply to all folders

No, I don't want the same view in all folders. I want list views in explorer and medium icons in the folder shortcuts. Is this possible?

EDIT:
Using Vista 64 if this makes any difference.

Will check it out in detail when I get a chance.

This is what I was doing (as described in point 30):
30. To Apply Changes to Just this Window Template -
A) Close the window when you make your changes to the Windows Explorer window to save the folder view settings for just that one window.

But it was still randomly changing back to default 'list' view.

Will give it another go and see what happens.
