Hey guys just spent another £400 on my pc from overclockers :p and got new razor 1600dpi mouse , fans, zalman headset, more ram and finally a 19inch viewsonic (Viewsonic VX924 19" LCD Monitor (MO-040-VS) )

After setting it all up and removing my old existing 17inch tfts (flatrons LG) i used DVI cable supplied and for the first time my rig had DVI yay!

However over the last few days i have noticed the odd flicker in a horizontal line randomly appear for tiny second and disappear, like magnetism effect. i dont understand because my 6800gt is working fine and nothing was changed on it between changing monitors, so i cant see what could cause it? maybe the monitor needs wearing in? the dazzle of pixels (very small thin lines) only show up every now and again, but to me (and avid gamer) its noticable :(

any ideas? update drivers on 6800gt maybe? i dunno what to do or whether i should just accept it and bear with it

my system stands as following:
3.2ghz P4 prescott, 1mb cache with HT (478)
Gigabyte power pro heatsink 12cm fan !
Asrock P4s61 Mobo (socket 478)
1.5Gb of Corsair RAM pc3200
6800GT AGP 256mb
480watt ATX 2.0 tagan psu
Audigy 2 zs 24bit HD
160Gb IDE seagate 7200rpm Hard drive
Cd /Dvd rewriter combo A-open
Dvd rewriter - A-open
5.1 Eax philips sound system
Viewsonic 19inch dvi TFT 3ms
razor chameleon 1600dpi gaming mouse
Zalman 5.1 surround sound headset
Custom case with neons, led fans, ultra violet cables and 4 80mm fans/1 exhaust fan

DRIVERS for 6800GT = 81.26

i notice it mainly in gaming, where my eye is looking for glitches and enemys lol

however i have seen it in bios and also on desktop too :S

ok guys i just got home and tried to play source and the No disguised swearing thing has stopped working now, like when it loads up game it goes black and says "OUT OF RANGE" but the pc is still running and the programs are still going too i think!!?! this is really annoying because i dont spend £400 everyday on pc for this to happen!!!!!

i am gonna unistall all my graphic drivers and then reinstall. ANYBODY got any advice before i go aehad with unistall?! say now

well if you get an "out of range" message then it will be because you are outputting a resolution and / or refresh rate from your graphics card that the monitor can not handle, or does not like. My guess is that you are running the refresh rate of your graphics card too high, and you may find that even running at 75Hz can cause some slight interference (like these lines) on your screen. Set the graphics card at 1280 x 1024 and at 60Hz (which is optimal and recommended for a TFT) and see how that works? Make sure the games aren;t set at other resolutions either as if you load a game to play in say 1152 res, it will give you that message since the monitor cannot support it

hth

well i have reinstalled new drivers and now getting things like , Battlefield 2 wont start up at all, just nothing happens once it goes into loading up start movies etc. DOOM 3 was put up onto 1280x1024 60 hz and it crashed 2 minutes into it. counter strike suffers from random lock ups...

temperatures are ok and i cant believe that its down to installing two control fans really. i am stumped to whats going on, and rather annoyed that i cannot play games now, other than counter strike with chance of crash.

well sorry to hear this, iam having problems with my Viewsonic moniter.
iam already on the secound replacement! (19" CRT)
Basicly give Viewsonic a phone, explain to them your a gamer and this is unacceptable. DONT CURSE or SWEAR at them "you wont get any were mate."
If you got the phone number give them a ring. or PM me if you want it!
Hope this helps. VIPeR.

it won't be related to the monitor you're using, that just wouldn't make sense. I think you might be best to post in the GH section if your PC is crashing and you are having issues playing games, a TFT would not cause this....

I have the same setup as you (6900 GT & VX924) and I have noticed the same slight horizontal flicker across the screen.

The time I noticed it most was while playing Civ IV lastnight. Every time I spoke to another AI player and the animated face appears on the screen it would start to flicker.

Occasionally see it during BF2 also, but can't pin down WHEN that happens...it just does!

Are you using DVI or Analog adapter??

Ive got a feeling that only 60Hz is available in the drop down list, but would need to check that when I get home! If there is a higher option I would have used that as this is my first TFT/LCD screen so would be used to setting it as high as possible with CRT!

As for vsync.... I might need a prod in the right direction as to where I might find that!! Sorry completely new to this!

well 60Hz would be the best option as it is the optimal refresh rate for a TFT. If you had it set higher, which might be the case if you are moving from a CRt, then this might explain the slight interference since the interface chip is having to control that higher refresh rate and the tolerance level of this is leading to some interference. TFT's can be run at 75Hz, but occasionally you can get issues like this,. Check and see.

As far as Vsync there should be some option in your graphics card settings to turn vsync on. Reason i suggested this is because it might help avoid any tearing, and perhaps clear up this issue you are having, as it will help control the frame rate in relation to what the monitor can handle. Refer to the manual for your GFX card to find out how to turn it on :)

I have checked the refresh rate and as I thought it was set to 60Hz as the only option.

I had vsync set to 'software control' so enabled that but it made no difference (also diabled but still nothing)

Im starting to notice the flicker on web pages now too. usually where there is a white page with maybe one large colourful image... the line will always pass through the image and not on the rest of the page.

The strangest thing is that I then played a game for a couple hours and hey presto after that the flicker had gone. Even going to the same web page as before everything was fine! Its as though it needs to warm up!!?!?!?!

Anyway, im going to try and re-install the drivers etc again and see if that make any difference

Thanks for your help :)

maybe also check connections are secure, maybe try it on 75Hz as well to see if that helps.....if not, maybe some interference from somewheree? is there another PC you can test it on?

right, i have tried V sync on and off (no difference) I am using rivatuner (latest)

Monitor wont change to any other of the supported modes, only 60HZ

i have re installed drivers (no difference)

moved my speakers incase of interference (no difference)

HOWEVER, i changed to analog connection with an old cable.... no flicker!!!

so its the DVI output/input that is causing this? can the people who posted with problems please tell me if same if for you, analog = no flicker, DVI = flicker?

however i am now getting random crashes in games, and my resolution doesnt wanna change from 1280 x 1024 60hz, when i open bf 2 it closes down immediatly and changes resolution to 640x480 and if i get it to work, it doesnt draw any floor textures, just invisible floor!!!!!

i am totally annoyed now

mmm funny this i have the acer which i belive uses the same panel as veiwsonic and i to am getting what i call twitches when playing pro evo 5 i have a 6800gs but no matter what res i play in its the same

so what is the verdict guys? i havnt returned anything through overclockers before because they are so good :) is this a case for returning? or getting refund as i am not happy with the product because i cannot use DVi (the whole point of getting it...upgrade..) what else are my options, i am fed up with it and dont wanna run out of time for return so need help with suggestions..

Im unable to test my monitor with analog as its on its way back to Viewsonic for a replacement (too many dead pixels on it!).

Im assuming that if switching from DVI to analog sorts the flicker problem and doesnt crash my pc like it does for Booner! I will have some other issue? I mean I guess DVI is better quality picture right??

To be honest im wondering whether this is the 6800's fault and not the monitor? If Booner!s pc resets then that can't really be the monitor can it??

Maybe the 6800 has a DVI glitch which only manifests itself with this monitor?!?!

I don't know, clutching at straws here!

Have you been able to get into BF2 to change the game res to 1280 x 1024? I also have BF2 and remember that when I first ran it on the new monitor that it kinda hated it until I managed to change it to the same res as the desktop.
