Hi there, im in a dilelema...which of these two monitors would you have an why? I really duno which too choose...Ill be using it for gaming practically all the time, and the usual desktop work:

Viewsonic VX2025 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-052-VS)
or
Philips 200W6CS 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver (MO-015-PH)

Just need a lil help deciding, thanks in advance!

my response just now in another thread might help...here

They could wellbe using the same panel, spec suggest they are, and so performance would be very comparable. There isn't a lot of info at pro review sites about the 200W6CS, so it is hard to say, but it does get excellent feedback from forum users here and elsewhere.

Yea i just read the article on Tft central thanks :) much appreciated...

Although theres some confusion on what the Phillips screen actually is? Ips or m-pva? i duno im new in this market...i mite wait till next month, but my monitor really is shoddy atm :P

Thankyou for your info tho, highly appreciated :)

it is just uncertain whether it is using a P-MVA panel from AU Optronics, which the spec suggests. Or an S-IPS panel from LG.Philips which logic would suggest seeing as it's a Philips screen.

Ahh ok im following, why is it that hard to tell?

But yea, i think ill wait, get my new computer this month, then the monitor next month maybe...unless this one dies completely :)

not really. If i saw the spec then i'd definitely say it was a P-MVA panel, same as with the Belinea 102035W and Viewsonic VX2025WM. However, Philips did suggest they were using an S-IPS panel, but were very unconvincing! :) Since they are part of LG.Philips the panel manuf i don't know what to think now! maybe the spec is wrong, maybe they are using an AUO panel?!? :D

does either the Viewsonic, belean (duno spelling), or philips, talked about in this thread offer the ability to buy a wall mount? The ability to do this is really required for my next monitor so if they can't i guess ill have to find another monintor, which would be a shame as i really like the price and spec's of all 3

You say they'll be used for gaming all the time... What resolution do you envisage playing your games in - ie: What resolution can your machine realistically handle?

so all these monitors, especially the viewsonic im looking at, allow the stand to be removed and a wall mount added?

they all have VESA mounting plates and i'm pretty sure you just remove the stand to attach them in other manners

See thats another thing...I dont have the system up and running yet, and ive NEVER owned a Tft Widesreen monitor before...so i have no idea im affraid :) Which brings me to another thing...Is it worth getting a 20" over a 19"?

And to follow up, im going to have an X2 3800+/4400+, x1900xtx, 1 x 2gb ocz 3200/4000, and perhaps an Asus A8r32-mvp mobo...Will that beable to play games at a high res? ie the native, but still allow me to play with setting, ie aa/af texture sizes etc, Or should i just get a standard 19"/20" non-widescreen tft?

Regards :)

Well, IMHO, you only need to go for a 20" if:-
a) You really think you'll make better use of the extra desktop.
b) You video card/system can handle more than 1440x950 in games (especially obviously the newer ones).

Personally, I currently run on my CRT at 1152x864 (ish). So moving up to a bigger displaying (19" widescreen TFT) at 1440x950 will be a nice step up.

However, I do not run most modern games even at 1152x864, so there's no way I can expect to run them at 1440x950. I would therefore have to run games at a lower resolution. So I could have a 24" monitor, but for all intents and purposes for gaming it would be a waste...

So I (personally) cannot justify the big price difference between a 19" and a 20" purely for desktop space...

As for 4:3 or 16:10 completely personal taste of course :) I like the idea of 16:10 games though :)

ps: Of course 19" widescreens seem to be quote rare. 20" (for some reason) seems to be in favour now...

Ok, i think im not going to bother with a widesreen...i have a 19" tft sitting next to me now at work : Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ 19" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-019-HY)

And it looks lovely...just wondering, anyone think its worth getting this:

Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ 19" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-019-HY)

over

Hyundai ImageQuest N91S 19" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-033-HY)

Regards, sorry for the topic change...kinda :P

get the widescreen mate im just about order the viewsonic but i'm hovering over the NEC lol :p

Meh, really not sure, like i said i had that 19" next to me and it looked lovely lol...i'll probably wait till widescreens more of a standard in games, which IS happening slowly...meh :P

My feedback moving from a 17" crt at 1024 is more pixels:-

1. much wider mouse movements needed even with mouse speed turned up
2. i have a browser open all the time, with widescreen i can visually multitask for the first time which a revelation.
3. dvd's on this screen are amazing compared to my 32" widescreen tv the detail is crazy!
4. if you have a desk with a raised part for monitors this screen will be too high! I'm having to remove mine as my neck hurts - not good.
5.running the games in hi-res on my 7800gt isn't really that impressive over 1024 but i'm not really into gaming... sb xfi was much more impressive.

I'm trying to decide between these 2 monitors aswell. I think I read somewhere that if you play a game that doesn't support widescreen on the ViewSonic VX2025 it will stretch the image, but the Philips doesn't. Is this correct?
Also, can anyone confirm if the ViewSonic comes with a DVI cable?

Thanks.

The game has to support widescreen but there are very easy things you do to change this.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/index.php will show you just how easy it is to get a game to support widescreen
