Thought start a thread letting people know just how good this monitor is.....

Got it about 5 weeks ago now and had been running a 19" Hyundai CRT for 18months or more prior to that. The change from the CRT is amazing with much better colour representation and much sharper images.

General
First impressions were fantastic with colour and brightness setting almost perfect straight from the box with no calibration needed Black was perfectly black and white was crisp & bright (almost hurt my eyes to start with). No dead pixels either, not a single one. The only thing that concerned me to begin with was that each corner of the screen (when black) had lighter patches, but these quickly faded within a few days to almost nothing and have now dissappeared completely.

Gaming
Respeonse time in games is fantastic (even though i'm still running a 9800pro  ) and I have not noticed a difference from the CRT in gaming. No scaling is available on this monitor but i've found that my gfx card is more than capable although the ATI catalist drivers are a bit rubbish for scaling and some resolutions don't scale properly but are apparently fine on NVidia Cards.

Movies
Because this monitor has the P-MVA panel instead of the IPS or the TN panle the movie playback is also fantastic, and I can't really say that there is any noticeable difference between this and my old CRT.

I really do think this Monitor is fantastic and can't praise it enough, I was worried about changing over to a TFT from a CRT for many reasons like ghosting, backlight bleed etc but I am now convinced I made the right choice.

Better than my CRT and better than any TFT I have seen or used!!!

just got one recently as well and i gotta say im well pleased with it, was definitely money well spent

Slight delay I know, but got some pics of mine now:

Damn that looks nice :)

There goes my plan to get the Philips :D Personally I love that square base stand on the Viewsonic.

Anyone tried the Viewsonic in lower res widescreen resolutions, like 1280*800? Does it become blocky or display the screen door effect (gaps between scan lines). Most games I'll just run at 1680*1050 of course but Oblivion I'd rather run in a lower res and get a better framerate. I currently run it at 1024*768 on a 19" CRT for instance since it's a good bit smoother than 1280*1024.

Yea, I have tried it in other resolutions..... It's fine as far as I can see, it has no scaling however so you wuill have to rely on your gfx card to do that.....

When the resoltuion gets small like 1024x768 the picture goes a little cloudy but other than that it's perfect!

Ok, thanks :)

When you say no scaling, it does still stretch whatever res you put it in to fill the screen doesn't it? I'm not fussed about it not having a 1:1 mode as I'll have a 17" TFT sat right next to it which I can use for 4:3 games.

No......

No scaling means that the monitor by default will display the resolution you chose in a section of the screen and then black out the rest, like letterbox format.

However all graphics cards scale and mine is scaling perfectly at the moment and will stretch any res to fill the screen automatically! So don't worry

Okeydokey. A monitor that doesn't scale is an odd thing these days. Doesn't really matter though as you say because the ATI drivers can do the scaling.

The only thing that worries me about this screen, having just read every thread on here I could find (using search) about it, is the proportion of people who seem to have backlight leakage with it. My current Samsung 172T is ancient and yet it has zero backlight leakage. View a complete black screen with the lights out, and while it's far from black - at least it's even. It just seems like all TFT manufacturer are getting really sloppy with their build quality. You hardly read about a model these days that doesn't have a proportion of units with backlight leakage.

Don't forget there are also a lot of impatient people out there.... Backlight bleed to some extent is present in nearly all TFT screens when new....

My screen had fading to each corner for the first week which has now faded, and I was aware that this may happen so it didn't worry me.

I got one of these but I am struggling with the size of the thing!

What can I do (apart from changing the resolution to make everything seem so small?)

if i whack the resolution down to a lwoer oen will i notice lwoer quality? (its all boxed up now - i am in 2 midns as to whether to get a vp930 - wil lthe vp930 offer exactly the same with regards to quality but just as 19inch normal screen?

I bought one of these on the day they came out and i love mine. Image quality is stunning with anything i've thrown at it, and gaming in particular is a joy to behold. Oblivion is jaw dropping at times.

It also looks damn sweet! :D
