Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6300 Processor

The difference?

As far as I'm aware both of those chips are identical. All Core 2 Duo CPU's have the Viiv technology

isnt viiv just marketing jargon?

yeah your right, its just Intels way of saying that the core 2 CPU's can be used for a variety of multi media.

Yeah, according to the advert, it lets you surf the net AND listen to music at the same time  .

I don't know how we coped.

blimey, my old pentium3 800mhz surfed the web and played music :O blimey, and now these c2d's do it wow, i wish i had one (well actualyl i do lol)

I could play starcraft and listen to mp3's on my old p1 200mhz mmx....lol

Eh, it's just marketing. Intel saw their Centrino marketing package do very well for mobile applications so they decided to do a similar bundle for OEM media center machines.

VIIV is a platform similar to centrino and amd live etc... you need a few components to conform to this platform... those components are...

Intel Dual Core CPU(Pentium D 8xx, 9xx, Core Duo or Core 2)
Must have one of the following chipsets, 945P/G/GZ, 955X, 965P/PE, 975X
Must have 5.1 HiDef sound or above(eg 7.1) compatibility
Wirelessly enabled 802.11g device
Must feature Intel matrix storage technology

thats about it, 99% of VIIV machines also have a TV tuner and feature media centre, but some are creeping through without the tuner... as its cheaper now to preload a machine with media centre 05. hope this clears things up.

I'm so glad we're into the Dual Core age now, back in the day it was such a chore choosing between either writing an email OR listening to music, now we can do them both. Whatever next?

Should they not maybe push some real multitasking situations in adverts and not complete useless tripe? I think even my Mum could work out that 2 extremely basic tasks at the same time has been possible for years...
