Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Might be worth you internally marking your repaired items after this, just to ensure that what does get returned to you from these sort of ‘clients’ is actually the item you sent in the first place!

I will be able to tell immediately on any item ive repaired anyway I recon, I can tell if something is something I have repaired or not 9 times out of 10, just by the solder i use, how it looks and my normal tell tales . I seem to always rememer a device ive seen before. I've re-repaired a few things over the years. I think a couple of switches have come back like a year and a half later with a totally different fault and I'm always like "yea I remember that port, looks nice"

It definitely reads to me that he just wanted to try and scam you into giving a refund; unfortunately there are plenty of scammers operating all over the internet.

I hope thats not the case - I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and he is working with me (sort of) so I shipped him a new controller this morning. It's no major issue but we shall see where it goes :)

@Craig_d1 - CPU is done mate but can't get it into a test board until the weekend - you in any rush for this back? (I lent my am4 test bench to a friend a few months back and am picking it up the weekend.)

When wifey destroys her phone for the I dont know how many times.... No touch available at all but I had the foresight to enable dev mode/usb debugging and allways remember this pc option so that I can turn it on long into it via adb command line and then just mirror. This should make transferring it to the pixel 10 I bought her today an absolute breeze :)

Every husband out there needs to do this as it makes the ear bending when the phone isnt working a lot more tolerable.

Do you have a linky for those gizmos? New phone time is always a little bit fractious :)

Absolutely ill provide some links to the two tools I use but to prep the phone you need to.

1) go into Settings>About Phone - At the bottom you will see "build number" tap that 7 times... it will count you down after 3 or 4 taps and once you have 7 dev mode is enabled.
2) go into Settings>System - Right at the bottom you should see "developer options" open that and enable usb debugging.
3) Plug it into a pc you will get a message with the computers thumbprint on the phone with an option to trust and accept. Trust the computer and accept USB debugging.

From a phone point of view the device is now in a state where if anything goes wrong the phone is in a position to be worked on without a screen/touch etc. This does not unlock or affect the bootloader so all banking apps etc will still function and work as intended and for all intents and purposes the phone is as it was with your own backdoor enabled when it inevitably goes wrong.

Ill update this post a little later with links to the two tools I use one for command line unlock and the other to mirror and control the device on a pc. Its all very simple but absolutely changes the game if the phone gets broken. Again this is Android only but menus might be slightly different on old unsupported versions.

edited with the required tools below:

Tools:

Android Debug Bridge - This tool allows a crazy amount of command line functionality to the phones OS including remote unlocking (I can show you how you can get into the phone if you know the pin but wont elaborate beyond that - There are methods of bypassing a lock screen entirely but that's not what this post is all about).
Android SCRCPY - This tool allows mirroring for remotely connected android devices where a trusted debug connection is active

These are the only two tools you should need for a device that is known and trusted by the phone.
