Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Hey Vince!

I've got 1 of my dualsense working perfect, another one I have changed the sticks on I just get 3 flashing amber lights then the pad turns off... So something isn't right, reddit telling my the controller is dead, do you agree? :D

never, check the battery is plugged in... check what its pulling on an ammeter... check pmic

I have a Tannoy sub that no longer powers on ;)

It sounds broken... what is it with you lot wanting to send me massive boxes, why can't you have broken small things.

Battery is 100% in, I'm gonna buy myself a multi meter now

Ammeter is this contraption...

Will tell you the draw of the pad... this one is an expensive one... cheap ones are available. put simply if it works when plugged in but not just on battery its probably the pmic chip.

So I fiddled with many things today... many consoles are fixed, half fixed or waiting for parts! Of the fixed and back together this is about all I have to show...

Plays a cool little tune when you turn it on or off . Now also has a 2tb ssd. Quite a nice thing not perfect but it's in decent shape.

Fixed your g29 - Well got it calibrating anyway. you were out about 180 degrees on the motor putting it back together.

Thank you so much, I must has caught the motor when taking out the clamps. Haven't been on much had wood up in me foot.lol.
But thank you and I promise not to mess about with my things again

I thought that was a typo originally :p I'll have a look at one of those!

I feel like I'm getting to the end of my skill / tool level with these last two dualsenses so I might need your help

What are they doing? - I need to replace a pmic in a ps4 pad later today. Pad works plugged in but wont power up on battery. Ill probably record that.

So I've got two,

First one - this is the one that just flashes amber 3 times then turns off, whether plugged in to ps5/pc or on battery it does the same thing. Pcb looks okay.

Second one - changed both sticks but left one isn't recognised and right one still drifts and doesn't move much at all with input - used calibration tool etc, both with the new hall sticks I ordered. (this could also be the second set of sticks I've tried with this problem on this pcb, but not 100% as I had all 3 pcbs on my desk!!)

The first one is a slightly different pcb too, ribbon cables are different so assume it's a newer model of controller (midnight black one)

I have a multi meter arriving today if that would help identify any issues :D

It would... you can measure the resistance on the lines with the pots off for a start see what that looks like. I can help you when you get a meter!!

In other news I have a new camera mount thing...

It's basically impossible at this point to have it looking clean and tidy with so much stuff...

I was also in town today and picked up a disc to test the one s... seemed only right to grab gears of war for gears of war console! I also have a red pad coming, I was hoping to get the pad that goes with the console but at £80 or so I'll give that one a miss.

Disc drive works lovely!! Not sure what it's worth but I'll cross that bridge when the pad turns up.

Mr G up here on quality control as normal.

Ugh do I have to take them off again  just had the amazon email that it's arrived but I'm stuck at a kids birthday party right now but I will take the pots off later if I get chance!

Dont have to take them off, take some measurments with them on it should be fairly obvious whats happening hopefully.

It's here but I have no idea how to use one :D

To help a complete noob out in terms of what settings the dial will need to be on etc, it's this model

So you want resistance which is the green over to the bottom left. Set it to 20k because you know the pots are 10k. Black probe plugged into COM, red probe in the port to the right of it. That should get you set up for measuring pot resistance.

So for the white controller, with the sticks that just aren't appearing to work, the potentionmeters on both sticks to the side range around 8.3-9.4...

Whats your reading in central position either side? Should read pretty much 5k on all of them in central position.
