Hi All,

Having just picked up a natty lil sff from the MM I need the collective wisdom of OCUK members.

It's a soltek Qbic kitted out as such

XP2700+
1 gig ( 2 x 512 ) generic 2700 ram
5700 ultra 128

the info I'm looking for related to they above, my problem is this our old system comprised of an XP2800+ Barton, 9800SE AIW and a single 512 mb stick of 3200 ram. this lot clocked v nicely to 2.4 on std cooling with no problems. However if I try and push this 2700+ even a midges nadger over it's current 166 fsb then it falls over. Should I switch over cpu's and ram adding a further 512 stick at a later date ?

Or plan B involves leaving ram,cpu etc intact and upgrading gfx ? I'm sorely tempted by a nice X800 as these can be had for good money these days. I'm not a heavy gamer but enjoyed Far Cry and have been known to dabble on UT2003/04.

Thanks in advance for any input it's much appreciated fella's

Some of the Barton chips are touch and go when it comes to Oc'ing

I had a 2600+ which would go to much over stock settings no matter how much I tried.

My only advice is to do up the Vcore voltage slightly, and lower the memory timings.

Then, increase the multiplier in single increments until the system becomes unstable. Test between using 3d marks, Prime or F@H etc.. Then try increasing the Vcore a little again. If it still unstable then you have reached the CPUs max speed. Make a note of the systems max speed without it crashing. btw, make sure you have a decent CPU cooler ;)

Now go back and reduce the multiplier below it's stock setting and increase the FSB in small increments and test. Repeat this process ensuring that the CPU speed doesn't exceed your noted ceiling until the system becomes unstable. Set the external clock speed back the prioe working one.

You will have to lock your PCI bus as increasing the FSB will have a knock on effect on other components.

I will add, don't expect too much. You might be best off with a Nforce 2 mobo such as the NF7 (rev 2) which has all the settings to get to 200mhz .

Good luck.
