I've got a PsOne with two sony controllers and one or two 3rd party controllers, a silver GameBoy Pocket (first version, no backlight) and a 4 year old gloss black DS Lite with a zip case and Mario embroidered on it, and I think I also have the box. Various games for these, all immaculate and tbh, none used that much, particularly the DS Lite. All bought brand new when they were the latest thing to hit the market. Looking at the bay, it seems I could get about £20 to £25 for the PsOne, about £20 to £30 for the Gameboy and about £50 for the DS Lite, or maybe a bit more with the zip case, games and box, I don't know.

My question is, if I just hang on to these, will they become more valuable in a few years as they become more rare and perhaps collectors items? I noticed for instance that some of the gameboy pockets with backlight are going for in excess of £70, more than a newer DS Lite.

Just because something is old, doesn't mean it's worth a lot of money.

Technology in general tends not to hold much value. Eventually it just gets worse and worse until it gets so worthless you might as well just throw it away.

The price might double or triple in time, depending on how collective, if at all, these items become in the future. But you're going to be in it for the long haul, at least a decade or two. They could also fall further in value. Most people who want to play any of the games featured on the consoles will just download an emulator, removing any need for the console.

yeah, I don't think they will get too expensive over time, especially with emulators. Just sell it now imo.

There was something like 102 million PlayStations sold, so its for that reason that second hand they are not going to ever be worth much. Maybe many years in the future when a lot of them have been binned or no longer work, but likely it won't be in your lifetime.

Ok, I guess I'll sell the gameboy and PsOne. I'll probably hang onto the DS for a bit longer, it is a nice looking bit of kit, and I haven't finished donkey kong v mario yet. :p

In a 100 years from now, gameboys and playstations will probably be admired on the BBC antiques road show :D

I think we will be long gone by the time retro consoles will be worth something of value in the collectors market.
