Vinyl for product photography?

Is vinyl a decent material to use for close up product photography?

I know it's fine for portraits but I'm worried about the texture showing up when moving in closer.

I use white seamless roll of paper (arctic white by Colorama). I also bought a sheet of white and black perspex. Though black perspex is like mirror, so extra care is needed.
