Hi All

Im thinking of starting my own Sticker/Decal company..

Can anyone recommend a decent vinyl supplier in the uk? Well priced or any places/forums i can frequent to build up my understanding

Looking to build up the business through ebay first

Any others done so and any pitfuls/research you think i should undertake first.

Reselling somebody elses stickers? Doubt there is the margins in it to be successful?

I have a friend who started one several years ago, invested in a vinyl sticker printer and started selling on Ebay first. From memory the printer was thousands though.

Built up a massive following, bought several more bigger printers now, rented a premises (she was doing it from her garage) and even has to get image rights from corporations for stuff she wants to print as stickers its got so big. Think she employees one or two staff now as well.

Yep. Probably been doing it for maybe 10 years now and built up lots of repeat customers. Do quite a lot of local signage and poster work now too.

Car decals too.

I used to buy vinyl and application tape from ATC at Rochdale (http://www.apptape.co.uk/). I used to go in for it when I was in the area though rather than order from them.

There used to be a good signwriting forum, though it seemed a little cliquey sometimes... can't remember what the URL was though.
 
I don't use vinyl too much now as I got sick of all the weeding but I just used to get stuff off eBay.

Sellers usually have smaller sizes available to sample before buying a big roll.

Hardest part of that sort of business is finding decent artwork that makes you stand out from all the others. Stock sites can be quite expensive for commercial use licence (which you will need) and unless you buy exclusive rights then your competition can buy the same image if they see it selling well.

Anything branded like Disney, Marvel, Xbox, Ferrari etc is a complete no go as they will take legal action eventually.

Plenty of different ways to take it though, add a heat press and you can do t-shirts for example.
