Violent games.

They're so common most don't think about it much but occasionally i realise that pretty much all games we consider good involve weapons and violence, now i like it as much as the next guy but why is there such a lack of top titles that don't involve anything of a negative nature?

Where are first person games that don't involve a weapon of some kind?

I can only think of portal which surprisingly turned out to be a great but short game, however you're still essentially shooting using a weapon like device, also I don't think you could play a puzzle game involving nothing but portals like that unless it was massively improved in complexity as the same old style would grow boring, there must be other styles of game play that doesn't involve either weapons and violence or puzzles in a first person style game, of course there are other game types like sports and stuff but rarely anything that good.

Even a lot of nintendo games involve vanquishing enemies, jumping on their heads ala mario for example.

Exactly, i just find it odd when i stop to think about it, don't get me wrong i enjoy them but i just wonder why its this way, it basically seems to come down to destruction/bad vs. creation/good and for some reason the former wins with the majority, sure its fun no doubt but why, is there something inherently wrong with humans that things are this way?

Not really true though is it? There are huge swathes of popular games that frequently hit the top ten that are non violent. Obviously FPS games by their nature tend to be violent, but gaming is not all FPS games.

It is true though, the vast majority of games involve weapons, violence and stuff of a destructive or negative nature, im not sure if you're the sort who likes to nit pick and argue for the sake of it but that’s how I and I imagine most people see if they stop to take a look, really your left with sports and puzzles and they're rarely that popular except for the odd racing or football game, I don't consider small arcade games and similar because they're not the kind of games im talking about here, not much else comes to mind, anyone?
