Always had a soft sport for Capri's as my dad had them when I was young, 2.0L GL, 2.0LS 3.0L S and 2.8i in 2 tone blue/silver, AHK 21X! What a car in their day.
This is when Capri's ruled the roost in saloon cars! Was at every race this year, last year of the Capri's domination before the Rover's started to get their act together (and TWR started to cheat!). There used to be 4 classes but at Mallory they ran them in 2 races, 2 classes per race hence the smallish grid at that race. All about the drift and well worth looking at the other parts of the season. In 1981 mid season Rover turned up with the Vitesse at Silverstone and it was pretty much end of game for Capri's.
Actually I think it was 1982 when the Vitesse finally arrived, not 81, can't quite remember but I do remember how quick the Vitesse was. It went from being a dog to a proper race car and sounded very different to the older version, much higher engine note and we sat there thinking bloody cheats, which over time was proven to be the case as TWR ran engines of 4.5L in a class with a limit of 3.5L!
