Virgin 100meg

We've ordered it for our new house in July. Getting it installed on the 4th.

The new place is in Withington, Manchester...and it became available to order about two weeks ago.

Not touching it due to losing the fantastic modem for a "super" hub = crap

I've read they are working on an update to the super hub that will allow it to act as a pure modem, allowing you to provide your own router without the super hubs router capabilities getting in the way.

Don't forget though that once you get to 100Mb speeds you may have to start looking into what routers have that sort of throughput. For example my old wrt54gl is still quite a powerful router, but with tomato on it the max WAN-LAN throughput is still only around ~30Mb. So if you do want to use your own router with a 100Mb service make sure its a good one, and if you ever want it to work at speeds >100Mb incase you get a further upgrade then that would also mean making sure it has a gigabit WAN port.

I've got it - Farnborough. Only got it cos' it was there.

You need to have a wired connection though to make best use of it, which I can't as too far away, no carpets to hide cable and wife that takes objection to wires all over the place.

I get 65Mb through homeplugs though so decent enough I guess..

I have it in Glasgow, seem to be having a pretty bad time with it though.

Can't seem to get any speed tests clocking in at 100Meg.
But when I'm downloading i get 11850 kb/s.

Connection seems to be throttled quite a bit also, which according to Virgins Page, 50 Meg shouldnt be throttled, never mind 100 Meg.

Although Pingtest is showing my Line Quality as grade A, my mate who lives 5 Minutes from me is experiencing some bother and getting a Grade C.

Got it this week, working fine on the dlink 615 router and the modem that came with the 50 mb think ill leave it as it is ,funny enough the super hub just been Delivered but after reading on here i think ill leave it in the box :)

Whats the deal with this SUPER hub?
I dont use wifi apart from this laptop and phones but they dont count!

Just dont want to get it and like the 50 drop out all the time as it did for the first 2mths of install.

Even though her brother works for virgin the service was crap and dont want to spend the next 2 weeks trying to sort the thing.

What i did in the end was drop the engineer a few quid to bump me to the top of the box.

As for throttling i move about? 100/200 gig a mth and dont want them to take the **** :)
Pitty sky cant do the speed cos for the last 12 mths i had a 2nd line running flat out and NEVER had any down time. PPL call sky but they are 100%

AVOID THE SUPERDUD check the virgin media forums it is a peace of ***** stay with your 50 meg modem and router until its fixed if you are gaming , if you are getting 100 meg installed and have the old 50 meg modem dont let them take it just incse

This is all true, poor timaloy's been getting his ass handed to him on our Black Ops server by everyone now he doesn't have his super internet speeds and low pings to make up for his lack of ability :D I'm going to phone Virgin and tell them I'll pay the extra to keep him on the 100meg ;)

if your not using Wifi the Super hub is fine

Knowledge source - I have a SuperCrud

For wifi i plug a belkin router in and create a wifi point but use the superhub for LAN and its completely fine i get a ping of about 9ms

Cheers for this, I'll try this tomorrow and turn my old wireless hub into an access point.

Ahhh thats not a million miles away from me.

Cant wait till its in my area!

I'm in Stockport, close to - I assume - both of you. My mum works for Virgin and as I'm still a big kid and living at home, I'm lucky enough to get the best package as soon as it becomes available.

I'll have to ask about this though as I don't know whether we have been signed up for it. I often find that it's not necessarily the speed of the connection that's a problem (although downloading quickly is useful), it's instead the quality of the connection. Sometimes when gaming I'll find myself shooting at a bloke who I just know should have been killed... But he doesn't die!
