Virgin 10mb & Surfboard SB3100 modem

I don't know myself but the Googles say it can't handle it. I have upgraded an old NTL home 100 cable modem though. Just ring up and let them know it's an old one.. or just say you're having trouble with it. An engineer will come out and switch it with a new one for free.

I *think* it may be an upgrade needed for it.
I remember having to upgrade my 4100 (or whatever it was) to get to 20Mb speed.

I had problems with an old modem when I upgraded speeds, I gave them a call & they posted a new modem to me for self install :)

I just checked the help file that came with my 4100 - it diesn't say much but claims to be "up to 100 times faster than a telephone connection". Remember this is a manual designed for the american marketplace about 8 to 10 years ago.

Doesn't sound to me like it will be very happy at 10Mb at top speed though.

Glad someone else has found the solution I'm looking for ... I'll be phoning in tomorrow. Pity they didn't spot this when they offered me a new "XL" bundle last month!

sorted for me as well ... asked whether my modem was suitable for 20Mb service via customer feedback form on VM website ... after I'd done that a quick bit of research proved that it wasn't since 3100 only has a 10baseT (i.e. 10Mb) ethernet connection. Got email from VM next day saying new modem was in post. It arrived couple of days later. Slight hassle installing as info with modem indicated that it should work straight off but if it didn;t to phone tech support to get it registered. It didn't connect initially so phoned tech support and got someone in India who I had to persuade to register the modem rather than book a technician visit (I think I confused him by explaining I knew the problem was on their side of the modem as I got read its status page saying that it wasn't getting a DHCP response). Anyway, he typed in the mac address into the database and modem sprang to life.
