Virgin 50mb to launch next year.

They can't properly support 20mb!! I'd rahter have 10mb on a decent infrastructure which is reliable than them pressing speeds higher and higher but not being able to support it.

Then again I might be completely wrong and they may have the network to support these speeds

Im not sure of the specifics yet, it wont be early on in the year however. The large bottlenecks at the moment are found at the CMTS (uBR) so these are being upgraded to DOCSIS 3 compliant ones rather than the DOCSIS 1 standard at present.

Any idea on what the upload will be?

Personally I would love 50mb. But until I can be confident that they can and will provide those speeds on a consistant basis then there really is no point at all.

Can't wait, i often get the full 20 out of my line at the moment. Good upload and fair traffic policy which i've managed to avoid with careful use.

Yip ... was wondering ..
how Virgin was going to find the 25 billion pounds for Northern Rock ....

Another **** network ...:p

I had 20 from day one & knocked it down to 4mb, My gaming is still as sound as it ever was.
Not needed in my opinion & will more than likely cause more problems for regular users.

Virgin is a totally different company to Virgin Media, Virgin media is NTL:Telewest with the legal right to trade under the Virgin brand following the purchase of Virgin Mobile, it's not owned by Virgin (Richard does have a minority share holding of circa 12%) . 50Mbit was announced ages ago and trials were ongoing, like most things it's just a matter of time, the majority of the network can cope perfectly well however DOCSIS 3 will make a big difference to future upgrades on the network (not to mention be the first implementation outside the US afaik).

I always get 20meg..and tbh it is needed in this era with VOD and HD content.

I agree with mr Avalon its nothing to do with Richard Branson they hold the virgin media title only and I bet now he wishes he had not allowed this due to carp quality and service.
