Virgin and Steam?

Recently I have been having great troubles logging into steam and running a game from that matter, I have also had troubles with huge lag on eve aswell as taking forever to log in.

Now i'm getting worried that it is some sort of virgin's (adsl) plan to 'improve performace' Anyone else had any issues? or should I get slapped round the face for being paranoid. :confused:

Is anything else slow (games, downloads, etc)? Can you post your router adsl signal details as well, as it might be a dodgy connection.

What Antivirus do you have as well by the way?

Downloads seem fine, pings fine late at night or at other certain times.

EDIT: Oh I have bitdefender, I have looked through all the help guides, re-installed, system restore, Winsock fix, haven't got anything to work. Takes ages for steam to launch just sits in the taskbar and does nothing. My games wont launch if I get on, preparing to launch...... Frankly im completly fed up with it.

Hmm you might have to do reload of Windows, unless anyone else can suggest things. Also it is worth speaking to Virgin and getting your ADSL speed boosted, as you're only on 512k.

Before you re-install Windows, try un-installing TCP/IP and if you fancy it, your NIC, reboot and re-install both, I've known that to help, even though it makes no sense!
Only takes 5 mins and quicker than a whole reinstall

Im getting upgraded to 2mb atm, hopefull things might improve a little.

I'd put money on that it's Virgin and upgrading will do absolutely nothing.

I have a problem too, but it isnt as bad. Just everytime when I log into steam, I cannot surf websites etc, and everything loads very slow. I have to restart router to make it work again.
