Not sure how correct the person my father spoke to but his box died, bought one off eBay and they wouldn't activate it for him. Was an identical box. He was out of contract anyhow so left for sky but still... Might mean that you can't unless he happened upon an unhelpful virgin employee.
I'm pretty sure if yours has a fault you can get a replacement sent out!
Ive always wondered about those boxes for sale on certain websites but cant see how people are able to sell them as they are still property of the providers!
All equipment on Virgin's network has to be activated on your account, via MAC address I believe. You're throwing money away buying the equipment on eBay .
Virgin replace it, only problem is they insist on sending an engineer to replace it.
It's ok if he has a brain, if not he could end up kicking up a fuss over nowt, my old plasma has vga and component so I use hd fury to hook it up and the plonker thought it was an illegal device
You do not have t have the tivo to record though. At least, you didn't, as the tivo is the top of the line one (which I had ripped out as it was beyond abysmal!)
Tell them you're leaving to go with Sky and they will install it for free
But as said, they will never activate a second hand/third party box so you're just throwing money away and, technically at least, handling stolen goods.
