virgin broadband speed

just wondering what download speed are you geting from virgin and does mine seem ok or should i call up

using download manager Flashget i get around 1200 KB/s and some online speed test says i get 7000 - 9700 kb/s does this seem right for a 10Mb broadband?
 
thanks for the reply :) thats good to hear i thought i was paying more for something i wasnt getting, im going to try the speed test again after peak hours
 
ive hit 1.3MB speeds on my 10mb line before and even on a torrent once, didn't last to logn though lol.

Last few days my internet has been running slow though, well speed tests claimed to to be going at 9.6mb but on things like youtube, gametrailers, video streamers it was going far slower as if it was more 2mb tbh. Even when i was on 4mb i could load all youtube videos pretty much instantly but many were taking ages and it was the asme on other video streemign sites so i dont think it was their end which had the problem.

So tbh i wouldn;'t really beleive speed tests.
 
1200 KB/s is roughly 1MB/s. And since 1 byte = 8 bits, 1MB/s = 8Mb/s, so you may be able to get a little more out of your connection, but due to overheads and such you will never actully reach 10Mb/s file transfer.

yeah i relised the same thing i was trying to watch some game trailers yesterday and it was taking ages to load same with youtube

you really need to use the correct units behind what your saying because someone who is looking for which isp to go for may not relise you mean MB and mb. Otherwize it looks like your saying you get only 1.2 mega bits from your 10 megabits, instead of 1.2 megabytes from your 10megabits. Which is very good.
