Virgin Cable IP Change

Hi, when I'm at home I use Pipex DSL, when I switch the router on and off I get a new IP everytime it powers back on, at uni I use Virgin Media Cable and when I do this the IP remains the same, is this because I'm on cable?

Is there another way to get a new IP or is it static for cable?

Not static but dynamic, although it's generally regarded as "sticky" as it rarely changes.

I think the lease lasts 24 hours so in theory if you disconnect the cable modem for that long you'll get a new address. In practice the only way to get a new address is to change the hardware connected to the cable modem, or more specifically its MAC address.
