How can I tell if I've been capped (apart from net slows down) - is there any way to see if thats what is causing the slowdown and its not my kit (or sites I visit)?

If you are being throttled, it should reduce your speed down to 25% or 50% depending on the package, for 5 hours.

Thanks, I normally get about a 6.5meg connection, and its now only running at 55 k.

Dukes link is for cable customers, "I normally get a 6.5meg conenction" suggests ADSL.
If you are on ADSL the you need to read this:

I'm with Virgin too, but i always get a 0.5MB connection speed and i'm paying for up to 6MB or something like that. It's probably the cables in my street for me.

Think I'd have a word with them about that, 0.5meg connection is rubbish nowdays - see if they can do something about it or at least give you some money off.
