Virgin data cable issue.

My first post! (I want free postage, so get used to me!)

I have the dreaded Virgin superhub, and kept it on top of my pc. Every time I moved my pc, the superhub got moved to rest on a big bundle of cables so it wasn't in the way.

I have just built a new pc, and with constant crashes, noctua fans rattling and new parts, the superhub got moved a lot.

Last night, after many trips inside my pc, I lost internet connection, so I went to bed. Got up in the morning, still no connection.

One call to Virgin, and during my 30 minutes on hold I moved my pc and got my connection to the interweb back. While the nice fellow in India tried to problem solve my connection, I moved my pc again and lost my connection. He diagnosed a new superhub.

After the call, I sat back and it dawned on me that my issue seemed to be caused by me moving the main data cable far to often and I think it had degraded enough to ruin the signal. I changed the cable to another one I had sat around and now I am nicely connected again, and this cable doesn't care if I move my pc.

Moral of this rubbish story is don't move your superhub about too much, as I don't think the Virgin cable can stand it.

My superhub has now got a new home, where it will not get moved very often, needed as the trouble and strife wasn't happy about not being able to go on Facebook...................

For all that people say about the superhub I've honestly had no problems with it :/
Was on 30Mb and recently upgraded to 100Mb. No issues. I used to have to reset every so often when I was running with a modem and router before. Very rarely have the need with the hub.
I didn't realise that moving cables could degrade the signal though. That sounds worrying. Glad you got it sorted in the end! God forbid you keep your lady from facebook :P

I'm happy, virgin gave me a £15 rebate off my bill for my lack of internet, then 20 minutes later I fixed it myself. Not telling them that though! :D

Internet not working, phone up and get money off your bill. Same for the tv services. I used to live in the back end of Norfolk, and my internet used to die on a regular basis so I like Virgin letting me phone up and get money off my bill, AOL never used to do that.

I guess you probably broke the copper core in the coax cable. It's just copper but is pretty thick though I'm not surprised to hear enough effort will knacker it :)

Always best to keep your modem/router in one location where it's out of the way and then you can do whatever you like with your Ethernet cable going to it. Easier to replace Ethernet than it is coax.
