Hi all.

About a year ago I moved into a house and the virgin phone/broad band line was basically sat on top of the surface so it was not even buried really.

I rang up virgin they said they would get some one out but I never did see any one...that was a year ago.

Well today my partners dad decided to lay flowers and went through the cable :( well the phone part of it any ways and has damaged the broad band side hence I can still use the net.

I rang up virgin short story they want £100.

I said nope come take it away as I did say a year ago it was layed wrong any way.

I said there must be some kind of minimum depth legally for a cable? she said ok I will get an engineer out for free to fix it.

What I am asking is am I really going to get it fixed for free hahahahah and if so how will they fix it just cut and rejoin the cable?.

So if there is any virgin media engineers here please reply

Thanks and sorry about long post

Phone them back up, mine was repaired for free and I got £10 rebate on the next bill for the inconvenience.
Don't say you cut it, just say that you found it cut.

In the mean time buy a normal coax plug and attach it for a temporary fix.

Are they going to send an actual engineer, or a technician they pretend is an engineer to make him feel better about his job?

It would be really impressive if the guy who designed the network came out to fix your cable.

Hahahahahaha yep would be.

You see what I am saying though its basically on top and the part of the cable that got hit has no shielding.

The ground is all most like rock so I can see why the chap who fitted it did not bother to go deep but meh still not right.

All so does any one know if there should be a minimum depth?

Hahahahaaha well I wont have a phone for a couple of weeks :( but I have the main one Internets...well for now unless the rain/cold weather kill whats left of the cable :(.

So do you think I am right though about the cable not being deep enough and should be?.

No, there won't be a minimum depth. They often need telling how you want the cable laid though, otherwise they'll just do what's fastest for them.

Temporarly repair the cable yourself, I did and it worked fine, they didn't care either.

Hahahahaha :P.

I aint gonna touche it because that's all they will need to say well you have now tampered with our property and then say we will now charge you.

I may phone them up and cancel me phone seeing as I cant use it till the 8th Oct any way then when its back up get em to turn it back on may save a little that way as I am paying for XL phone package.

Damn it, the only reason I came into this thread to post something like this.

Sorry OP :p

Hahahahaha well being a 40 year old virgin is fine...... :P.

So lets see if I get it fixed for free I will let ya all known on the 8th Oct :( such a long time really hahahaha.

You should receive at least as much discount off your bill as you've lost in service (i.e. two weeks line rental), though I'd be pushing for a 'goodwill gesture' too, myself. As such don't bother getting them to disconnect the service 'temporarily'. It'll have an impact on your broadband package as the prices are cheaper when you take them 'with' a phone line (usually to the cost of the line rental - i.e. £38 without phone or £27 with).

They will repair it for free, they've no real choice given the circumstances. At least you still have some access to the internets. Imagine if it was the other able that got cut...

Oh, and please stop saying 'hahahaha' three times per post. It's grating. :p Kthxbai.

+1 :D

major difference between the two.

yes your correct I suppose even though it was cut our end the cable was still badly placed etc.

I will phone them again good idea to see if I can bump up my appointment.

So am I right in thinking they will cut and use joiners to repair it? as I cant see them digging it up all the way back to the front of the house hahahaha.

i looked at the first pic, and dont think ill be getting virgin anymore lmao!

how bad do they have to be to not even be able to lay the cables properly?

tsk tsk tsk. hope you get it sorted.
