Any idea what I could have done wrong here?

I have a virgin media hub 3 router which has my nest router plugged into that.

Was working fine, but I wanted the hub3 in modem mode and now it's stopped working.

The light has gone purple/red which I understand to be correct, but I no longer have Internet, nor can I connect to the hub.

Originally the hub address was 192.168.1.0 now it's said to be 192.168.100.1 but neither work so I can't even change it back without a full reset.

Any ideas?

Are you connecting via wired or wireless?
I had the same issue when i tried to disable wifi and turned it into modem mode, but i was able to reconnect via wired and turn it back on. then disable wireless!

Power the Nest router and the Virgin Hub off, wait 5 minutes, power the Virgin Hub back on, wait a few minutes, power the Nest router back on.

wired connection, though i've tested the wireless from the nest router and that connects just with no net.

Have done this and still no change.

I realised I had plugged the cable into port 4 which I've since read, no longer works when in modem mode, but still when I go to port 1 on the hub 3, this doesn't give me Internet

I had an Asus router which had no WAN port (only 4x LAN ports), so could not use it in modem mode, make sure your router has a WAN port, I replaced my old Asus router with TP link AX20 (which has a WAN port) and all works fine,

Btw what router settings are you using, make and model?

Remember to check your router settings after you SH3 is modem mode, do SH3 in modem mode first with router off.

Make sure you connect your router wan port to the bottom port on the superhub (4 i think) all the others are disabled in modem mode. Also, as someone else said turn off both the superhub and router, turn the router on first then wait, then turn the superhub on, it should work then.

From memory modem mode only allows a single port to work, I forget if it's 1 or 4, but something tells me it's 4. Also the router needs to be set to DHCP on WAN.

Correct. Except apparently the SH4, which is supposed to be able to accept a router on any one of its ports. I didn't test though, I just used the bottom out of habit. I don't know about the SH5 yet, obviously.

Randomly working now, but what do you mean by this? Totally no clue
Hey, I'm having exactly the same issue and it's driving me crackers. Which port on the back of the Virgin Hub 3 did you use in the end? And did you use an ip of 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.100.1 for it?

What ip address did you assign to WAN on your Nest router?

Would you mind sharing some screenshots of the WAN and LAN settings you've used on the Nest router? I'm using an Asus RT-AC88 but I'm sure the same principles will apply.

Thanks a lot in advance

Use the last port (number 4) and restart both the Super Hub and the Nest router. You should leave the WAN settings on the Nest router as DHCP/automatic. You don't need to change any settings at all. The IP of a Super Hub in modem mode is 192.168.100.1.
