Virgin Media 100Mb Service

Tell me about it,ive recently moved into a small village and this is the best i can get here with a 40gb per month limit.

Ive got a download box with remote connection at my parents house running off a virgin 50mb line so will be moving upto 100mb when available.

Haha, you should be happy with that :P I live in the real country side ;)

been waiting for this, registered and will be getting as soon as its available.

Availability: The 100Mb service will be available for sale and installation from December. Customers can pre-register or check availability at www.virginmedia.com/100.
How did you find out what month it was coming for you?

For me it just says "Coming soon" :( Do you have to register interest?

Seems pretty awesome. I'm on 10MB at the moment but haven't upgraded once since getting the line installed in early 2000...which was 512KB back then!

This might change my mind however....

the problem is that I havn't seen any mention of them rolling out new fibre to anyone. So while people that have access to Virgin will now be able to get 100mb, those that don't are still struggling by on 0.5mb or worse.

My exchange is connected to Virgin but they didn't run a fibre to my area. As a result my Exchange is super fast but everyone in my area is limited to 4mb.

Meeting the EUs targets by just giving a lot of people 1gb/s and leaving everyone else in the cold isn't quite the right way to go about it.

i'll be upgrading to it if it's £35 + £11.99 phone line, but if they try to get me to pay the activation and installation charges again they can forget it. i'm already on the 50Mb, i don't see why i should pay for activation and installation.

Whoosh! Get ready for up to 100Mb broadband
Strap yourself in, because up to 100Mb broadband is coming your way! As you’re in a fibre optic cable area, soon you’ll be able to enjoy our fastest broadband ever. Enter your details below and we will get in touch as soon as it is available in your area

On 50 meg atm its not bad but faster is always better imo and the 10meg upload speed would be really handy. looks like I wont be getting it til next year probably tho as it only says available soon in my area.

Is the superhub the modem/router combo that forces you to use their router? If so, is there any way to disable all functionality of the router other than the basic NAT and still use my current router for firewall, filtering, port fowarding, network monitoring etc...?

I wonder what the virginmedia partner discount will be on this :-) I hope it will be something similar to the 50mb price.

I have registered my interest anyway's. 100mb sounds sweeet.

As if I'm going to use the Virgin Media supplied "superhub" over my WNDR3700!

I'm interested, I manage to get a yearly price deal and atm am paying £29 a month for 20MB as a sole product since I don't have any other VM service. It's about the time of the year to re-negotiate a deal price too and I have submitted my details as 100MB is available from December in this area!

If anything I'm hoping for the 50MB pack for a similar price as I am on now.

50MB down + 5MB up is a nice package!

What useage caps will there be on this, if any? Surely there'll be something, hopefully sensibly defined. I can't see people being happy to have the same cap as the 50MB package if VM try to do this.

Superb pricing on virgins behalf... 2 1/2 times the speed of BT, most likely more reliable and higher delivered speeds.

Looks like it's coming to SE and London first... so I can't wait!

I agree, same here as I pay £50 for installation and £50 for activation fee and £52 for first month in advance service of 50Mb.

I will not accepting another installation and activation fee (that's just Virgin Media profit money themselves)

I might stick with 50Mb if Virgin won't let me to have free activation and installation charge as a goodwill offer for customer loyalty (50mb)

I just saw on thinkbroadband and 100Meg will be on traffic management :(

Traffic Management–Network-level protocol based traffic management will be in place which protects the quality of service for quality-sensitive applications such as video streaming. This will mean that during peak times (5pm-midnight on weekdays and noon to midnight on weekends), peer-to-peer protocols and newsgroup downloads may be shaped to manage capacity, however it is not expected that subscriber-based traffic management (i.e. managing heavy users) will be in place at this time.

So, it pointless to have 100Meg if traffic shaping 5pm until midnight mon-fri and 12pm until 12am for weekend :(

You don't have a choice. The superhub has the cable modem in it. I just hope that it is possible to disable as much of the superhub router functionality as possible so that it is still possible to use an even better 3rd party router in between the superhub and the LAN.
