So,

Who else here has taken the plunge into getting 100mb virgin media broadband - had my installed over the weekend.

On speed test sites I get between 60 and 115 - no two results are the same.

On steam I get between 60 and 110mb - odd that it varies so much.

Tried my trusty user-net, seems I'm getting a solid 118mb connection 100% of the time - had to change my port to 443 during peak hours tho (as it seems they throttle the default port down by 95% of my downloading software (583 iirc).

So far very pleased, can download 1080p quality films in 5mins - nice.

I just wondered how everybody else's experience has been so far? - for one, im looking forward to the 120mb upgrade coming (at some point this year) - should be 130/40 if it increases by a similar amount :).

you should have waited. virgin are rolling out upgrades for everyone very soon. my 50mb connection will be a 100mb connection in july for no extra cost :)
the 100mb package you have bought only gets a boost to 120mb though

It is complete subject to your locality. For every 5 people that tell you it is wonderful you will get 5 that cant even stream Youtube videos.

Hopefully after they spend the £110 million "everyone" will have a reliable and usable service all the time.

50MB is more than enough for everyone. I wish they'd spend money increasing capacity, especially for peak times, rather than headline speeds which not everyone can get.

I've been an NTL/Virgin customer since 2002 and I've always been on the middle package. 600k in 2002, 720k in 2003/4, then it shot up to 1.5m then 4m then 10m but it's been 10m for about 6 years now. Now I check Virgin's broadband page and see that 10m is actually their lowest service now. Apart from *use different word here* traffic shaping though, I'm pretty happy with the 10m. T1 (1.5m) has always been my benchmark speed as that was the connection I started out with in uni halls in 1999 before I realised how goddamn slow a 56k modem was back at home which was in the middle of nowhere!

I only just learned the difference between Mb and MB

1 megabit (Mb) = 0.125 megabytes (MB or mb)

0.125 (MB) x 100 (Mb) = 12.5MB so in theory you can download at 12 megabytes per second

But the price is being reduced to 50mb rates.......

30Mb is more than enough for everyone too. If we had reliability i'd be completely happy.

Agreed, I just picked 50MB as its been their headline speed for some time now. Rather than yet another speed increase, I wish they would work on capacity because their network cannot handle the demand. It is atrocious at peak times.

i can imagine some of the student houses round here benefitting from the 100Mb connection tbh. a few of them have 8+ people in, all of whom could be prolific downloaders

I'm on 30mb and not so fussed about being able to download at 3MB/sec. I'm more interested in the packet loss and about 80ms pings for UK servers. I remember when they were about 30ms. :(
