Is virgin media broadband any good? I currently am using eclipse internet (the £29.99 package) but have to have a BT line for that that i don't use.
Was thinking of getting the 4mb virgin media broadband with the L size TV package for £36.50 a month (price from virgin media website). If i was to phone virgin media could haggle and get that price put down?
Thanks in advance guys :)

They are generally very good, but some areas have problems with over-subscription on the broadband.

Certainly worth trying to get a bit more added in for your money.

Ive read mostly bad things about them.

Im currently with them and to be honest they are appalling. 90% of the time i get dial up speeds eg 100kps and pings of 200 to 250 at best.

They have good deals to lure you in but from my expirence the broadband isnt very good. Ive had average expirences with virgin mobile(i presume they still use t mobile aerials) the signal is bad from my expirence but that depends heavily on where you use your mobile.

The tv is good besides the fact you dont get the most popular channels eg sky one and you need to be in a cable area.

If i where you i wouldnt use them unless you just do basic web surfing as chances are you will get poor speeds and pings and even connection problems. As someone else said they have too many customers using too little bandwidth.

Broadband companies that i would recommend are bethere.co.uk and adsl24.co.uk. They have good customer service and exclent speeds (be* have speeds up to 24mps) and they get good reviews at dslzoneuk.net.

Im not sure but if you get a cheap sky package and one of the cheaper packages with be* or adsl24 then it could work out a bit more than what you said for much better products.

Fantastic service here. Always get upto my max stated download speeds and always have done since I started using Telewest back in 2002. Rarely have any downtime. Service is perfect.

This is what my router thinks of the 20MB service I pay £29 for:

Watch that you don't get confused between the cable and ADSL services - it sounds like redporshe is referring to the ADSL service, and everyone else is talking about cable.

TBH if you search the forum you'll find this comes up weekly, the general opinion seems to be a lot of people have no problem with the cable service at all, a small number do. As stated the Virgin ADSL product is totally different and should not be confused with cable. As a new customer you won't get anything better than the normall offers - the Sales side have no credit facility to give you anything more!

virgin are the next to go down the pan first fast4 did with throttling and port blocking and now virgin which has also now started to throttle uplaod spees to a mere 128k not good for gamers or voip users.

I have been on virgin media for a few years now since the days when it was called blueyonder.
I have had no problems at all with there service.
I am on 20meg download and have xl tv plus anytime unlimited land line free phone calls this costs me £54 a month.
The only problem i had was when i got switched to 20meg and found i was only getting about 10meg.
One phone call to virgin and they sent out an engineer who changed my modem for a newer model and i am now getting just under 20meg nearly all the time.
I would recommend virgin media media to anyone on the service i have had over the years i have used there system.

Have been with them since they was called Cable&Wireless (I think) this must have been back in 1996-1998. I've had one issue with them, and that didn't turn out to be their fault, some stupid people drilled into one of their lines :p

Always get full speed and service from all phone, internet, and TV.

We got XL broadband, XL tv and free evening and weekend phone calls for £40 pm... seemed better than the normal offers to us :p.

It'll have been an offer at the time, be it Field sales or Telesales trust me none of them have a credit budget so they can't reduce prices for a new customers.

Us students have the XL broadband and XL TV package. £41 a month! Bargain. Works out at £10.25 each for all that. Great service too, got through on the phone quickly when we had a problem - and they sorted it all in about 5mins on the phone.

my experience with the XL service was great, before it became Virgin Media. When it became Virgin, I am now plagued with speed caps after 4pm, random disconnects, due to my old modem which they wont replace. Terrible phone support.

Virgin cable is great but I think the OP is refering to Virgin ADSL which should be avoided at all costs, I have two friends on this who thought it was a good package with phone + tv all in and they get 200+ms to UK servers and 56k download speeds every day. Go for a proper ISP like ADSL24, Falconet or Fast.

we've been with ntl for about 4 years then they changed to virgin and its been excellent all the way through no bad download speeds at all no problems. my advice wouild go with them.
