I've been trying to get a good deal from virgin BB, or at least what I think is a good deal. So i'm out of contract in Jan 2022 and currently on M500. I don't have an O2 phone and I didn't even know about these Volt package until this weekend when I spoke with one of their agent about not renewing. I currently pay £49pm for my M500 which was over 18 and has £13 worth of discounts. So even though i'm not paying £62, £49 still feels like 'surely I can get a better deal' kinda thing.
With no other alternative for any service providers to offer similar speed where I live, I already knew I weren't going to leave Virgin but I felt like I wanted sometime where it felt like how it was back in the days of Telewest I think it was, when they would just increase your speed for free when they rolled out a faster service.
I just also have to mention that Virgins staff are by for the worst I have dealt with. Not all were bad, but damn..some of these folks working from home are just ....And then when you get through to India. It's okay if you can understand what they're saying, but mate if you really can't you're in a world of pain.
Anyhow today I was offered the upgrade to Gig1 and a 5gig O2 which doubles to 10gig with Volt, unlimited call and text for £48pm. I don't really need the sim but apparently thats the only way I would have been able to get that discounted price. I asked Virgin what if I purchased my O2 sim separately (£6pm instead of £12pm) and was told I would still get the Volt but not the discount so that option would cost more. When you speak to some of this folks at Virgin, you can clearly tell they're making things up as they go along when it comes to what they offer, so it's hard to really gauge what a good deal looks like, and especially when people are paying the full price in some cases for their services.
I also phone virgin as a new customer (not in my name) and was offered the same Volt package for £45pm - £33 for bb and £12 O2 sim. I could have gone with that but my guardian angel was sitting on my shoulder getting on my case.
So apparently by Thursday the router should arrive. I thought that the SuperHub 4 was the latest model, I'll contact Virgin tomorrow and see what they say about potentially providing the SuperHub 5. No harm in trying I guess.
I have a ASUS router which I will use to connect to the virgin box while in modem mode. As long as you have the correct devices and ethernet cable connected to say the router and for example a MacBook, is it easy enough to get the maximum download speed of say 1130Mbps instead of 900Mbps?
