Virgin Media Discussion Thread

You've got to love Virgin Media. After 87 days of no internet and 3 no shows of an engineer, one finally turned up and said they can't fix my connection.

The VM contract is getting cancelled and BT is my only option. But I should have over £800 compensation.

Useless company !

That's shocking, did he give a reason why they can't fix it?

I live in a Tower block, and the VM cabling was installed when they built it so it's all internal wiring. But when an engineer came out on 29th July he told me it can be rewired externally and booked me in to have it done.

The engineer today said they can't do it as they have to get permission from the local council, and its all got to be done with fire safety/caution in mind - proper ducting etc...

What a nightmare, what service from BT are you switching to?

Going by SamKnows, I can get FTTP and/or FTTC which sounds good. But I have the normal copper wiring so it might just be normal broadband.

Anything will be better than using my phone's wifi hotspot :)

I just want to get far away from Virgin Media asap.

As someone who has just signed up to Virgin and is expecting the router delivered today that's not very comforting :(

Received my SH5 this morning, easy quick swap and sets itself up nicely.

So far web pages seem more snappy to load, One thing I've noticed in the setting is for some reason you cannot change the name of the two different Wifi bands, On the SH3 you could name 2.4Ghz something different from the 5GHZ band so you can see them both when looking at wireless devices on your phone, But on SH5 it automatically names both 2.4 and 5Ghz channels the same name with the option to change the 5Ghz channel name greyed out.

Wonder why they have done this

EDIT - Appears like 5Ghz doesn't seem to be working for me, Its not showing up and running speed tests on my phone its clearly at 2.4Ghz speed.
Also,AIO pc and Laptop which are all 5Ghz capable are not showing a 5Ghz signal. Hopefully ill be able to get this resolved and i haven't got a dud. :/

Is that just the default? Can you not split them when into the full options

Apparently that Free hub5 link was just a pre-customer linked website and not for actual VM customers, did anyone get it free in the end?
