Any reason to ask for the SH5 if I have the SH4 and use it in modem mode? I know I'd get a speed boost with how they over provision, but my home network is only 1Gbit.

Newer stuff is shiny, but if you have no intention of using the 2.5Gb port and the weird shape of the Hub 4 doesn't cause you any issues then there's no reason to care about upgrading.

Only really benefits are to be able to pass greater than 1Gb to your infrastructure, your existing cabling will do 2.5Gb without issue should you be doing other upgrades.

Hub5 Wifi is higher speed than hub 4 if you have modern wifi6 devices, but no access to this in modem mode.

Hub5 is an ugly beast, I prefer the 4.

Hub5 has a more normal PSU, not stupid brick of Hub4.

Wifi seemed pretty good off the router, easy 900+ Mb, range not so hot but my house is difficult.

On the subjects of Wifi speeds I saw that you could enable 160Mhz channels in Hub5 too and because it is getting full access to LAN with 2.5Gb port Wifi can do 1.3-1.4Gbps transfers which is nice so you can get the full 1150 internet via Wifi if you have decent client.

Of course, that is only same room as router once a wall is in there it drops to sub 1Gb but still.

Hub5 also doesn't have the cursed Puma 6 chipset, which is reason enough.

I actually prefer the look of the Hub5, it looks a bit sleeker to me and doesn't take up as much space.

The whole reason for getting mine was to pass more than 1GB to my server, however, I didn't want to do the other upgrades needed until I could get hold of a Hub5. So now it's all up and running, I can do the rest of my plan!

Does anyone know how long you get from receipt of the equipment before you have to plug it all in and activate it before the old stuff shuts off?

Not sure, I received mine last Monday and plugged it in Weds. I reckon they must give you around a week before they shut off the old hub.

I think it's 6 days. Also make sure you keep your receipt when you return the previous router via Yodel you were using, just in case. I returned my Hub4 at a drop-off 6 days ago and yesterday I received an email and text reminding me to return the old device. After having to deal with Virgin C/S for endless hours at the beginning of the year, the last thing I want is them saying I owe them money or something for an item I returned.

thanks for the tip, yodel are the worst they were meant to deliver my new kit thursday, waited in all day and they were a no show anyway ...

Got the e mail as well to reboot my router to the speed increase.

Was on the M100 and now on M125, doing a speed test i get 132Mbps down and 21Mbps up

We have been with VM since they were NTL and since then no other provider in our area could touch them for speeds so we've been forced to stick with VM.

Looks like BRSK are in build stage in my area and where I can finally get 1Gb up/down for a decent price

hopefully not to long to wait

I’m in Stockport and BRSK have been on my radar for ages and I would switch, but their build programme is super slow. I expected to have it by now but it is actually looking at summer 2023 at best currently.

thanks for the info, does your availability status say "in build" ? if so, how long has it been like this?
