Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I signed up in December after cancelling and offered a deal, not had an email yet about the price increase, I wonder if my contract has this baked in.

now for the painful task of trying to contact them to ask :/ they make you wait all day on whats app for a reply, then when they do reply and you can't answer in time, very close the session lol

Edit: ok they’ve told me I won’t be getting any price increase. Unsure why but hey ho.

Got my 1gb virgin line in yesterday with the hub 5, I’m having some issues with tp link av600 extender and home plug. Not sure why but when I pair the av600 and home plug and copy the routers information the extender seems to work for 10 secs then drops its wifi connection then comes and drops again. I have a poor wifi area in the back of the house upstairs and was using these on my plusnet router no problems. My phone,iPad,Xbox picks up the extender because I get full bars then you can see it lose connection then reconnect, on the Xbox you can also see it constantly losing connection.

Anyone used these before or has any clue what could be causing it? Even using the Ethernet connection on it to the Xbox it drops the. Wired connection every 10 seconds. I’m going to invest in a mesh setup but just for the mean time was needing these

Here are my router stats. I've put under spoiler to avoid clogging up the thread. Cheers

Edit: I'm on 1Gig FYI

Can't see anything obviously wrong there. How has it been over the weekend? Tried a reboot? If so sounds like you'd need to contact VM after all.

Strangely my BQM has gone down Friday to Sunday the last couple of weekends. I can only imagine it's just a coincidence. Service seemed "fine", no noticeable lagging whilst playing.I did get in a fair few hours of gaming whilst my wife was abroad!

I had 2 guys from Openreach installing fibre to the phone poles outside our house. One of the guys said it should go live in 5 weeks, tying in nicely with the end of our contract with Virgin in July. Not sure who the provider will be but I know that Netomnia will be installing fibre too, unless Netomnia have just paid Openreach to do it? I've no idea how these things work.

take a look at https://bidb.uk/ it should tell you whats planned

I can see why some people don't rate VM's network, this is a completely unused VM line. EDIT: This line has now been disconnected so this is just showing the last day.

And this is the CityFibre/Vodafone line that 4 of us use. EDIT: This is live

Hopefully I have made my last ever payment to Virgin Media. They're better than nothing but there are definite improvements they could be making with the oodles of extra money they're about to charge their customers

Finally managed to get a free upgrade to a Hub5 yesterday (as others have said they had no stock until recently). Went via the faults team and said I need the 2.5Gb ethernet port for my Gig1 connection via modem only mode. They didn't argue and placed the order there and then, coming tomorrow.

They will not send me a hub5 no matter what i say, although i'm currently thinking of leaving thanks to the constant dropped packets i'm currently getting.

Did that staff member forget they work for Virgin Media?

Welcome to Virgin Media! My wife and I have been married almost 10 years now, and VM still insist on the account holder's name being my wife's maiden name. Every time we bring it up they say we 'should have sent a marriage certificate in, then'... To which we confirm that we have. Three times! Eventually I made a complaint and asked where our personal data had vanished to, if they've had three copies and still can't locate them. How is our PII being handled for this to be the case? Some silence, a bit of chair squirming, and 'We'll look into it and call you back'.

NARRATOR: They didn't call him back.

So now, on the run-up to our 10 year anniversary, we still have to answer 'What's the account holder's name?' with 'Smith... No, Jones. Well, you think it's Jones - don't ask'.
Would you believe that to this day on the system they have an account in the name of Mr Sony PlayStation? They also have an account where someone kept changing the sir name from Duck to… well the D and F keys are next to each other.

Account name changes were handled by a specific team within the National Customer Liason Centre and they were always less than quick/reliable. If you get stuck, just go the CEO office route at this stage, they won’t do anything, but a request coming from the CEO complaints team gets instant action as it’s passed to someone who is competent.

Contacted VM yesterday after a letter arrived saying my package will go up by £12 in April and my 18 months contract will end next week, both online chat and the normal CS team are useless, those deals they offered are exactly what I am paying now, and refused to remove the TV from my package which I haven't used for years.

Called 2nd time and this time I told him I wanted to cancel he quickly put me on the cancellation team, and an advisor from the cancellation team removed the TV from my package and offered me better BB deals with a landline: £47 - 350Mbps, £54 - 500Mbps or with Volt deal add £6 o2 sim to get 1Gbps.

I really want to leave VM but sadly no alternative in my area as FTTC only can do around 15Mbps max, the only hope is Community Fibre but hasn't heard any update yet.

The thing to do with virgin is actually go ahead and cancel, then sit and wait for them to call you with a better offer.
To expand on that. You have to give 30 days notice to leave, so you say you want to start your 30 days notice. Then they'll call you back after a week or so. You can cancel your 30 days notice leaving at any point if you want to back out.

I've been doing that for years, sometimes you get discounts as much as 50%. This time though, now openreach fttp is in my area, I'm going to cancel for good! I'll be switching from Virgin's 1000/50 to the opeanreach 900/100. I'm a little sad about losing 100Mbit, but the doubling of the upload is the important bit.

Corrected :)
(Sorry I know I am poopooing VM and I should stop, but I genuinely feel that angry towards them).

The thing is some have issues some don’t, so everyone’s got a different opinion.
I’m out of contract and have had VM for years, the last time it went down for me that I was aware of was during the start of Covid when demand on internet was high.
I game online occasionally, steam lots of 4K movies with no issues at all.

Saying that price hike is steep and we will be trying the cancel route soon to get a better deal.

Everyone bangs on about FTTP as if it’s some magical cure, that may be the case, but it’s also not available everywhere yet, so millions don’t have that option.
