Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Don’t bother, I contacted them on this, Twitter and another Number to report a cabinet open… it’s been like this for 3 months now. Was told thanks it’s reported we will send somebody… Nothing so ended up wedging a stick in the door to keep it closed….

It's a long time since i've had Virgin installed but just looked to get it at my stepsons apartment he's due to start renting.

Do they still need to drill through walls to run a feed or is it just done through existing cabling? Annoyingly the landlord is away so unable to ask, and i don't want to run the risk of causing problems from the start.

They will need to take the feed into the house yes. If that means drilling holes or going through existing ones then so be it but make sure you ask your landlord whatever you do.

Yeah, this was my concern. The rang them up and they suggested nothing would be required, but obviously the guy in a call centre doesn't know.

I might just look to cancel it and go with a regular Fibre provider to avoid the issues. It's a 2 week lead time with everyone, so waiting 2 weeks to find it's not going to be installed and then waiting another 2 weeks is going to be annoying!

Take a look see if there's already a way into the building.

Sometimes old cable can be pulled out if it's not used but again only landlord would be able to assist with it really.

My upload speed reverted back to 85mb and has been that way for the last month, it only just occurred to me that I could try rebooting the super hub which worked. My Eero units have also received a firmware upgrade and now I can max out the connection on WiFi.

@ChrisD. Did you get yours sorted or no.
I finally had a response to the complaint I raised:

I have investigated this for you and can see that after advice from Principal and Technical Site engineers who have discussed within their peer group they have been advised to pass to IP edge as although 6 ATDMA upstreams deployed, d3.0 and d3.1 macs are only using 4 of these 6 and this is the limiting factor on upload speed. Config / bonding groups seem to be there for modems to use 6 upstreams however need to be adjusted to allow for d3.1 modems / higher speed.

They should have this resolved soon for you.

I'm currently in the process of changing ISP to Virgin and taking out their gig1 broadband. Can anyone recommend a router with at least 1 No. 2.5gb Lan port to allow me to fully utilise the connection via ethernet? Only other requirement would be for the router to allow me to host a VPN server so that I can access my home network remotely.
