Virgin Media Discussion Thread

left VM, final bill was £0, now a new final bill of CR £13.33, contract didn't expire untill Jan next year, odd.

Several explanations exist:
  • You pay a month in advance, the contract is for the basic service, if you were for example on a top package and had timed the disconnection correctly, you'd get a full month back, but it would need to be one heck of a monthly package to manage that.
  • If they are still manually applying early termination charges, someone may have dropped the ball.
  • You are mistaken about the end date on the contract.
  • You left by one touch, and the process is still far from perfect as I understand it - as long as you have acted in good faith, they can't back bill you.

Impatient people who can’t wait another 5-10 minutes to download something and those that like to post their speed results on here to show everyone how fast there internet is.:D
I first encountered broadband while working on the US for 3 years1998-2000 where in the last year we got 256kb broadband which was transformative compared to 50kb dial-up. Came back to the UK and back to dial-up for a couple of years or so until first UA cabled our street then, as Telewest, launched blueyonder with 512kb broadband. Been with TW/VM ever since with speeds regularly getting bumped up so now am on 250Gb ... pretty sure we could manage without much difference on 100Gb - only potential time when might have benefitted from more speed was during lockdown when I was helping out local church do online services etc where sending 60 min video files around could have done with a higher upload speed ... but at 250/20 I realized I had it so much better than the other people on BT ADSL!

Someone do me a favour please.

See if you can get to lastpass.com please, can reach it on my phone, cant reach it via virgin BB.

Thanks

Restarted firefox about ten times, restarted mac twice, unplugged ethernet, joined wi-fi still nothing. Plugged ethernet back in, restarted Firefox and it works now. Who knows???

Just got an email for my end of contract IG + landline paying £41 currently.

" When your contract comes to an end on 14 June 2025, this will change to £92.01* a month."

Well its good bye VM after the song and dance of cancelling .

I'm sure they just make up prices, same service as you but my new contract would be £70 a month, had enough of them and going to give ee a go

Did you not try to negotiate a better deal?

This is pretty standard and when I negotiated I got a better deal, I used live chat and didn't have to even cancel.

I've just shifted to VM from sky TV, as sky really shafted me with increases. Pity you can't get VM tv without their internet as well, so now I have a redundant setup on my router which would probably come in handy except my primary internet provider has been pretty rock solid for the near 4 years I've been with them.

I have the little stream box thing, but it seems to have some bugs with the apps - most noticeable with netflix. Every now and then the HDMI signal seems to drop out. I'm pretty sure it's not the cabling, as it's the same hdmi cable I had plugged into my sky Q for 3 years with absolutely no issues whatsoever.

Anyone else noticed anything like this?

No could not bothered , I have Vodafone FTTP as well so no loss . I doubt very much they'd be able lower it to my current price or near.
That was my experience when they heard the name of the FTTP competitor they didn't even try.

It seems like their current business model is milking the existing customer base where they have no competition and also expanding into areas with no competition.

Just took the plunge on M500 as it’s £31.99 for 18 months. After reading the contract it goes up to £75.50 per month after the 18 months. Unbelievable. Got a calendar reminder to cancel or sort a new deal before that happens!

I was very unsure after reading so many poor reviews of them but time will tell I suppose.

Yep, "half price" as a bonus discount that you have to argue to get again every 18 months. Ridiculous.

TBF they've been very reliable at our new house for 3 years, aside from rebooting the router about 1am every night. Didn't do that in the last place.

It is quite amazing really. If someone didn’t see that small print and got charged after the 18 months would people really not care as that is a hell of a jump.

It’s brilliant as now I’m getting multiple phone calls from what seems like BT/EE broadband even though when I asked for a lower price or better deal before switching they weren’t interested. What is going off with these companies nowadays?

Soulless corporations with departments completely disjointed from each other spread all across the world for cheap labour.

I got a fantastic product from a local FTTP company, the same person that I spoke on the phone came to my house to do a survey and offer me the deal.

The whole experience was very pleasant, refreshing and reminiscent of the bygone times.

I'm just worried that all these little FTTP providers will eventually be consolidated and absorbed by the big players.
